That’s not how it works. The conference will expand with the best candidates and the “school with a grudge” will always acquiesce and vote them in. You think A&M wanted UT and OU in the SEC? No, but they did what's best for the conference.

Tell that to ECU, who was blocked by Louisville from becoming a founding member of Conference USA. Louisville said they would leave the conference if ECU was allowed to join.

And Louisville would have gone where???

I have no idea. Their threat worked though, as ECU wasn't admitted for the start of CUSA.

ECU was playing football there a year later. Great threat.

My point is that schools have successfully blocked other schools in the past.

Virginia also blocked VT out of the ACC for a long time before state politicians got involved. I am sure there are other examples as well, but I can't think of any off the top of my head right now.

I think Austin Peay has little shot at the Sun Belt. I have doubts Sun Belt will expand beyond 14. I think Austin Peay would at least be in the mix for CUSA in the future.

They have a long way to go, but Clarksville is experiencing rapid growth so if they can leverage that then maybe they have a shot. Just seems premature to be really considering them by at least 5 years.

I think we sit at 10 until we have a compelling reason to add. Money, performance, markets, etc. don't really change much with any of the current programs interested. Let's see if any of that changes over the course of the current media deal. If the MWC starts poaching programs, then we can start adding.

Proof that VaTech was wanted by the ACC and settled for the Big East?

145 posts in this thread---------- Zero---O---- from any primary Austin Peay fans. I have very seldom (if ever) seen any posts from AP fans even on their own csnbbs conference board (ASUN).

So does the same hold true for FSU being wanted by the SEC and settled for the ACC, DoubleRSU?

Nope... the SEC wanted FSU, Bowden was quoted saying something to the extent of , We will never be able to win as many games in the SEC vs the ACC... so they went to the ACC. (Or stayed, don't know the exact timeline)

Are you surprised? There are many examples of few, if any, fans of multiple university athletics programs — some high profile and some not — not posting on this board.

I don't recall having seen an Arizona State fan posting. Maybe one? Or a Minnesota fan. One ... two at most? I think I might be the only person who posts on the board and who follows Tennessee State.

If your point is that because Austin Peay has no presence on this board it, by deduction, has no fan base and, as such, is wasting its time attempting to elevate to FBS level football ... that seems a bit of a stretch.

My point is the "thread title" is about them. It contains the full name of the school in connection with a possible HUGE move up. The OP was about AP and yet NO response-- now eight days later.

That is my main point-- which is a reasonable thing to bring up IMO.

Anyone who is consumed by college sports enough to post on a site like this is mentally sick, so no Austin Peay fans here probably says more about us than it does them. 03-lmfao

By the looks of their home attendance, I think it's safe to say they don't have much of a fan base.
