I would go with Troy. Georgia Southern has played some really good ball but they looked terrible against us and JMU. I love what my ULM team is doing but I also believe they will ultimately falter with almost no bench help.

This was my point in post #33. CatMom can have a thread titled "Women's Basketball" and Eagleholic can have a thread titled "Men's Basketball Power Rankings" but others seem to have a problem specifying in their thread title that they only want to discuss one sport.
Disagree. The problem is you interjected your opinion on how things should be into a thread with plenty of context explaining how they are. And you only did it to make a misguided point that everyone else already knew. And your doubling down on some moral high ground that no one cares about. If they did, then women's basketball would be a revenue sport instead of a waste of money.

Guys seriously, you're being really petty about this. Nobody is stopping you from making a women's basketball thread if that's what you want.

But it's not, you're more interested about the anger over a lack of the word men's. It's ridiculous.

Society man....

I'm a father of four girls. This is not some kind of grand posterizing that you're making it out to be. It seems like there's no room for nuance anymore.

I agree I think it's Troy.

But ULM have made great improvements since the out of conference slate, definitely something to build on going into next year.

Honestly I don't know that accurate. I've known Keith since '78 or '79 and I really like him; however, I believe it's time for ULM to go in a different direction with basketball. Their surprise performance has not altered my thoughts on that. I really hope he decides to step down after this season because I don't want to see him fired but I also don't know that I want to see him coaching ULM next year.

1)JMU

(But any of Louisiana, Texas St or ODU could have a rightful claim to #4)

Actually, Louisiana owns the current tiebreak for fourth (2-0), Old Dominion and Texas State are next (1-1), Georgia Southern last (0-2). Separation may come Thursday with Louisiana at Georgia Southern and Texas State at Old Dominion.

Yeah, my 4 are kinda based on the conference standings, but it wasn’t intended to be a straight read based on conference record. Georgia Southern looked pretty good beating JMU, so that’s why I have them as my #4 right now.
I agree, I give a slight edge for 4th to ga southern. Right now anyway.

If Southern Miss is near the top of the standings, I know that women's basketball in the Sun Belt is a very weak league.

Also, it's very apparent when someone starts a "basketball" thread that they are referencing men's basketball.

JMU fans generally really love our WBB. To the point that some use our women's success as a way to put down our men, which drives me nuts and honestly really turned me off of our WBB for quite a while. I shouldn't have let it and I don't anymore, I fully support both and I attend both now but I'll admit I reacted crappily to other people's crappiness in the past.

Anyway, point is that JMU fans support the hell out of our women and any slight to WBB will get push back from plenty JMU fans. Obviously that isn't exclusive to JMU fans either. On our board, Hart seems to have been getting a kick out of deliberately disregarding the women lately so big WBB supporters from our board are probably even more bothered by it than they'd normally be.

At the end of the day:
1. I don't get the need to go "Hey come on, the men are more important, I'm not gonna specify!" Why not just specify men's basketball if you mean men's basketball?
2. This is a thread that's a great and interesting topic with both MBB and WBB. So why not discuss both?

To answer your first question, it was not some kind of intentional oversight. It was totally unintentional. But when people started making a big deal about it I decided not to.

For the second point, I think clearly because the discussion becomes slightly confusing...

I don't know, there's no grand political statement the pro "basketball only" crowd is making here.. it's just that if I'm specifically talking about basketball, it's men's basketball. I think a lot of people understand that.

Hate to be honest, but women's basketball is not even on the radar even slightly.

it's so simple ... men's sports are by default ... women sports = women's threads ... to mix and match in the same is just fk'n stupid! .... it's worse than jeep judy's curtain in Dallas...

And please understand, my tone is not hostile but one of logic.

For the pro designation men's or women's basketball crowd let me ask, if this is so important to you how come we don't see a weekly women's basketball thread every week?

For scientific validation, I just did the wife test. I simply asked her

"If I say I'm going to watch a Marshall basketball game, what sport am I talking about?

Her response "Men's Basketball of course"

RE: Predict the top 4 Sun Belt basketball teams
JMU fans getting ticked off or feeling slighted for some supposed patriarchal construct being intentionally put in a thread is so on brand for them. No one.......let me repeat No One was in any way trying to be disrespectful to the women's teams.

At USM the three sports that really matter and have even a chance of making money for the university are Men's football then Men's basketball then Baseball. I go to women's volleyball games occasionally because my daughter played in high school and likes to go. I go to softball games occasionally because I enjoy that sport being a baseball guy. I don't really go to much women's basketball games because I am not much of a basketball fan. However, USM actually being decent again has actually gotten me to some games this year and Yes, they have all been men's games.

People complaining about this are the same folks that think the WNBA should be compensated equally to the NBA when they essentially produce no profit.

They don't produce a profit and the WNBA is subsidized by the NBA by around 10 million a year.

Really? We gonna argue about simply adding a ’MBB’ or ‘WBB’ to start a thread? The fact is, this is the only sport where it’s needed, not like softball or football. And another fact is that a lot of folks pay a lot of attention to WBB, or both. Just because some don’t doesn’t mean that they cant follow basic courtesy to save confusion for those that do. Jeesh.

We changed the thread title so everyone is clear, and we can get back on topic. If you were somehow offended, sorry. Not the goal.

And getting back on topic. Does anyone think JMU or Georgia Southern could sneak in?

I happen to think JMU still has a rough road to hoe. I think they would need go 7-2 in their remaining games to have a mathematical chance.

App State, same condition.

Or here's an interesting question, which one of these three has the best chance to slip, maybe pulling out of the top 4 range?

And why?

Louisiana
Southern Miss
Marshall
