Women:

1. James Madison - top women's team and I like their schedule the rest of the way.
2. Southern Mississippi - already beaten Troy and winnable schedule the rest of the way.
3. Troy - road games at Texas State, Louisiana and Southern Mississippi will make it tough to stay in the top 3, but rest of the schedule should keep them top 4.
4. 4 way tie for 4th right now. I like Old Dominion to come out of that pack.

Men:

3 teams at 6-2, 3 teams at 5-3. These are your top contenders, at the moment.

1. Louisiana - Cajuns have the easiest road to the title...7 home games, 4 against title contenders
2. Southern Mississippi - 5 home, 5 road, 3 contenders at home, 1 road.
3. Marshall - Herd play the 3rd place teams at home and have only 1 road against a contender.

With the schedules these teams have, it will be difficult for them to mess this up. They should be in the top 4.

4. Troy, Georgia Southern and ULM are the 5-3 teams. Georgia Southern has no home games against contenders and are playing the top 3 teams on the road. Goodbye. ULM has Troy at home and the top 3 on the road. Goodbye. Troy has 2 home, 3 road against contenders. I like their chances of getting in the top 4, but there is a good chance they may be caught by a 4-4 team, James Madison most likely. For the moment, I'll side with Troy for top 4.

This.

Going to come down to the gritty road tests to decide this years winner. What more could we want as a conference?
Yep! I like the fact that we will be facing most of the crucial games down the stretch @the Cajun Dome. I also like that we are seen as the under dogs by most of you….will make the W’s that much sweeter!

04-cheers

I guarantee we do not look at Louisiana as an underdog by any means.

Most Marshall fans are very rational, I know we will be underdogs in our matchup and it will be a tough road game to pick up a win.

Looking ahead, I was really hoping our game could be picked up by ESPN2, but I think because it's a Saturday night at 7pm CST, 8pm EST, might be more difficult, if it were on a Thursday night for sure I think we would get that national coverage, but make no mistake that is definitely circled on the schedule.
By ‘under dogs’ I meant that I don’t think one poster on this thread had us at anything but last of the top 4. It was by no means just you.

I hope you guys bring a big crowd to the game, so y’all can at least enjoy some great food, etc., to go home with that L!

Excitement is growing with the team, so I’m thinking..HOPING…a nice crowd will attend, but with such a large venue it takes a huge crowd to have a real loud atmosphere.

riley and I put y'all in the top four and stated in "in no particular order"...

of course, it was easy to overlook as y'all are "ewe-la-la" in the book of stink-isms ... I'm still missing a 'smack nick' for a few teams ... I'll have it figured out once they become relevant ... 05-stirthepot

No offense...but it doesn't matter what "we" [you (plural)] know. If it isn't specified, it opens up to other available options, in this case, the fact that there is also a race in women's basketball.

Sorry that offends some, that's just the way it is.

Not offended, and not asking you to change the thread, just pointing out that the women are in a race also. When you have two sports and don't want to discuss the women, please specify.

it's pretty simple to start a separate thread ... just like the jumbled NET rankings...

GS and Troy have the advantage of skipping each other.

Marshall skips South Alabama, Southern Miss skips Coastal Carolina and JMU skips Arkansas State.

You also have to remember 2/3 of the schedule is division schedule and the West appears to be a bit tougher IMO.

Top 4 as of right now

1)JMU
2)Southern Miss/Troy
4)Georgia Southern

(But any of Louisiana, Texas St or ODU could have a rightful claim to #4)

Actually, Louisiana owns the current tiebreak for fourth (2-0), Old Dominion and Texas State are next (1-1), Georgia Southern last (0-2). Separation may come Thursday with Louisiana at Georgia Southern and Texas State at Old Dominion.

Yeah, my 4 are kinda based on the conference standings, but it wasn’t intended to be a straight read based on conference record. Georgia Southern looked pretty good beating JMU, so that’s why I have them as my #4 right now.

I guess 4-4 is good enough for first place.

I noticed that too.. We have 3 teams at 6-2.. One has beat JMU, One hasn't, and one hasn't played JMU...

Saying a 6-2 team leading the conference isn't a top 4 team shreds any future post you will make. Were you drunk when you posted that? The amount of sh!tposts on this site is comical.

Pretty sure that he is talking about women's basketball. It appears that there are a few posters that want to discuss women' basketball, but are trying to discuss it as it is the main basketball sport when most of us don't keep up with it at all.

If Southern Miss is near the top of the standings, I know that women's basketball in the Sun Belt is a very weak league.

Also, it's very apparent when someone starts a "basketball" thread that they are referencing men's basketball.

Seems to be the general consensus is most people like Louisiana, Southern Miss and Marshall. Who do we have the most confidence with out of Troy, Georgia Southern and ULM?

And does anyone think one of the 4-4 teams could go on a run?

I like Troy the best of those 3, but I have not seen Georgia Southern play. I think JMU has the best chance among the 4-4 teams and have them as my #5 team right now. Their win at Troy could end up being the tiebreaker for the #4 spot at the end of the season.

We need to be clear if we are talking about basketball everyone will assume Men's basketball unless it is specifically mentioned to be Women's basketball. I was very confused by this thread until I realized we are mixing Men's and Women's teams discussions.

This was my point in post #33. CatMom can have a thread titled "Women's Basketball" and Eagleholic can have a thread titled "Men's Basketball Power Rankings" but others seem to have a problem specifying in their thread title that they only want to discuss one sport.
