It might still happen! But there are obstacles here that are much larger than what happens on the field.

Are there any other leagues that Chicago State has a legitimate chance of joining if they sponsor football?
Probably not. They had a legitimate shot at the Southland, but their administration burned those bridges and now the league doesn't need them anymore.

It's pretty incredible how badly Chicago State played its hand when it came to realignment. They miraculously had 2 different leagues with interest after being nomads, but then still somehow mucked it up.

On top of getting kicked out of the WAC in the first place. Yes they were a travel outlier, but they're in Chicago. If they were an actual Division I athletic program and university, they'd have added men's soccer long ago like they agreed with the WAC that they would, and probably been made full members.

Not really. OVC is their best fit, but they aren't that desperate.

I really wanted the OVC to add them, last year, when the conference appeared desperate for new members. However, USI and Lindenwood look like solid additions. USI is tied for first place in men's basketball. Lindenwood is struggling somewhat, but they are ahead of us and beat us on our home court in Little Rock. Who knows what happens in the future, but the OVC looks pretty solid at this moment in time.

I think Lindenwood is more of a football school than a basketball school. Basketball definitely drives the bus at USI. I was in USI's arena in December for their game against Indiana State, and their arena is pretty nice. With the OVC Tournament being in Evansville, I think USI could pull a "Bellarmine 2022" and win it their first year. If that happens the regular season champion (assuming it wasn't USI) would get the AQ.

I wouldn't mind seeing CSU in the OVC, if they follow through and add football. Not sure if they are wanting scholarship or non-scholarship though. I'd really like to see WIU and UIndy eventually added to the mix.

Another Chicago State thread? Seriously?

Can't Chicago State's problems basically be summarized as "Even their own students and alums don't care in the least about their sports teams?" Why does this board care so much more about Chicago State than their own students do?

On a scale from Chicago State to Ohio State, how would you rate your Athletic Department?

Or Alabama, or Georgia ...

I take it that is a 100 point scale, because if one of the schools I mentioned were a "10", then Chicago State as 1/10th of that would be mighty optimistic.

Chicago State is a the equivalent of a junior college awarding BA degrees to commuters. Not a lot of junior colleges have much loyalty, either.

Why do you care what real-world conference realignment topic people on a conference realignment board discuss? You throw a fit every time there's a topic about a smaller school as if this website and everyone on it are your personal property.

Who crowned you the privilege to mandate which schools are allowed to be discussed?

Hey! If you don't find merit in a thread pass it by! You don't stop to take a dump in something someone else wants to talk about, or finds important, whether you think it's worthy or not!

We have a P5 forum so that those wanting to discuss only those conferences can do it.

We have the general forum of College Sports and Conference Realignment to represent all schools including Chicago State.

The next person to post in a thread they claim doesn't merit discussion will receive a forum ban. Obviously that individual doesn't really like this forum and shouldn't piss off those who do. It is a troll move and will be treated as such!

He isn't the only one! As there are plenty of butt hurt fans of schools in smaller conferences which post disparaging remarks in threads about P5 schools. Those posts amount to a drive by shooting in which a school, or conference, or poster is criticized for supporting a P conference.

Those posters will be treated the same as I described above and from here on out I will have zero tolerance for offenders!

Chicago State played several OVC and MEAC teams this year, as well as a couple from the Horizon League. I wonder if their cobbled-together basketball schedule might be seen as sort of a dress rehearsal to join any of these conferences? Probably far-fetched of me to think that.

Has CSU burned too many bridges to be a viable option for the Horizon League now? They would be the perfect addition geographically and give the HL an even number of schools in its conference. On top of that, you would think Green Bay and IUPUI would love to add the Cougars to their schedules to give their forlorn men's basketball teams a chance at a rare win.

I think the frustration that a lot of us have on here with Chicago St is that they clearly an institution that has neither the enrollment or the finances to field an NCAA division I athletic program yet their administrators refuse to move to a level of play that is conducive to their means and is quick to play the race card whenever their motives or decisions are questioned.

And that is a worthy topic of its own thread if treated academically with a Joe Friday approach.

It's interesting, when I first came here I was also confused about all the interest in Chicago State. But, as I've stuck around, I now realize that Chicago St is every bit as important as Alabama in this forum. Perhaps more so, as there are several schools with top notch Athletics, but Chicago St is unique in D1.

Anybody who hasn't seen it, I highly recommend checking out the thread about the Chicago St BoT zoom call a couple years ago. It was great theater, very entertaining, but also very interesting. Here's the link:

Sucks to be Coastal Carolina today I guess. Came in 7-3 at home, over .500 overall, and lost to the Cougars.

Chicago State was good enough to defeat 3 different Big 10 schools in 3 different sports last year, so who are the under achievers?

I’m sure Louisville basketball budget is more than the budget for all CSU sports combined.

Chicago State's budget is NAIA level, as it their recruiting. Their profile fits pretty well with the Chicagoland Conference. They would be pretty much average in that conference.

Yes, truly a school that needs to throw in the D1 towel. Northeastern Illinois in Chicago with 3x the enrollment doesn't even offer athletics. The Chicagoland would be ideal for Chicago St.
