Rice wins 81-74. Give us a 10 point lead and we're the worst team in conference. Tell the team they've just let the opponent back in the game and we're one of the best teams in conference. Weird game.

WBB vs. UNT
I will take the W

Never thought I’d be this happy to be at .500 but we’re back up to 4-4 and now in a tie for 4th place (4-way tie).

13-4 overall, too.

Just back from the game. This women's team is so frustrating to watch. Every time they go up by10+ points they immediately become a turnover machine (almost all unforced) and allow the opponent back in the game. UTSA stinks, yet we just barely beat them on Monday at home. Ditto UNT. This team does not know how to play defense. 44 points allowed in the paint. Post defense is non-existent, and no one on the team knows how to square up against a drive. Consequently, uncontested layup after uncontested layup...and when we foul, they're soft fouls, allowing for the basket and one. This happened against UTSA, as well. Exact same thing.

On the half court offense, way too much standing around, and we often pass to a player with a defender all over them. Fortunately, Austin rebounded from her disaster of a game on Monday with a strong effort and Ennis once again made several huge 3-pointers, halting UNT runs. Thankfully and importantly we made our free throws down the stretch.

Right now this team is middle of the pack CUSA. Unless we improve our post defense and half court offense I cannot see us competing against the top 2-3 teams in our conference. I hope I'm proven wrong, but it has truly been painful watching us barely beat weak teams at home the past two games.

I disagree with quite a bit of this. UTSA may have the best player in the league (but not much else besides that). UNT plays good defense. Most of the turnovers were forced. Outside of MTSU, I don't think there is a team that Rice can't beat. We can lose to quite a few of them as well, but I still think we're the #2 team in the conference.

I will say a couple of things. First, we need to make a change in the starting lineup and start one of the freshman guards over Gooden. Personally, I'd go with Ennis but I could see the case for Jazzy too. Secondly, we need to stop with the silly fouls (which primarily are from Fisher, Austin and Gooden). Those are more annoying to me than the turnovers.

Do tell where the defense was tonight? We couldn't stop a drive by anyone on UNT, and we allowed a ton of wide-open 3-point shots (with no defender within 10 feet of the shooter).

Just because we didn't play great defense tonight doesn't mean we can't play defense at all. The team looks tired but three games in five days will do that to you (and some tough road trips on top to boot). At least the schedule the rest of the way goes to the traditional Thursday/Saturday scenario, and mostly reasonable travel situations.

Rice had a lot of energy at this game for some reason relative to the two previous games. Maybe it looks this way when the 3's are falling

Or maybe people have more energy when things are working.
