You nailed it. Get the better education, more playing time, network with alums and get the better job that the player probably doesn't deserve in the first place.

St. Francis would be DIII in football if they could.

And Shepherd made the conference move not for competition, since the difference between the PSAC and Mountain East is minimal., but for travel since Shepherdstown and the Eastern Panhandle is closer to half of the PSAC schools than the nearest Mountain East. You literally have to go through another state to get to the rest of WV.

100% Shippensburg and Millersville was closer than any Mountain Wast school by a long shot. The competition in the PSAC is better too

The PSAC is miles ahead of the Mountain East. The Mountain East is a one bid conference in football while the PSAC consistently gets multiple schools into the playoffs. The last Mountain East school not named Notre Dame (OH) or Shepard (when they were still in the conference) that made the playoffs was Fairmont State and that was back in 2016. They lost 62-13 to a PSAC school (IUP) in the first round.

Talking about the Mountain East the only coverage it really gets is MetroNews doing some stuff during football and basketball. Frostburg State is the biggest school in that league at a little over 5K. Shepherd doesn’t get much either.

High school sports (especially football and basketball) gets more coverage in WV than the D2 schools.

Honestly, I think D3 in general would be more appealing for the whole thing if it weren't for their location. At least with the NEC you can try to tap into that footprint for enrollment, along with central/western PA, western MD, eastern OH, and WV.

They would fit right into the AMCC except for football. Probably nothing less they'd want than be there. ECFC would kill the travel budget of any D3 school outside of MA, really. But, I could see SFCPA football in there. I doubt they'd want to be in MAC. Centennial wouldn't likely take them.

The choice here is go to a fake D1 school in a town that nobody outside of Cambria County knows is there and be first round sacrifice in the FCS playoffs like they were this year or go to a better D2 school in an actual town and compete in the D2 playoffs for a few rounds.

How can anyone say that D2 is superior to D1??? 01-wingedeagle 01-wingedeagle 01-wingedeagle

The fact is he didn't say that.
