Finally Pera is earning his salary. Great win and finally Rice is legimate [quote='texowl2' pid='18733812' dateline='1674183413']
Massive win. Can we give Pera some credit?

Rice. There is no team he has beaten more

C-USA Tournament Quarterfinals, 68-50

Sounds like the Owls are due.

I've gone into deep debt on the belief that the Washington Generals are due. I'll be set for life one day soon though...

Like I said, the Owls were due.

When do the Generals play again?

Here's a sentence that I don't think many people would have expected to see here....but

We may need to start worrying about someone hiring Scott Pera away from Rice after this season is over.

Just looking at the boxscore after getting home from the women's game. Just 9 turnovers is super impressive (and we forced 13).

Our men and women are a combined 27-9. I may have to do some research and see how many schools can claim a better combined record.

Let’s not get ahead of ourselves here. I have deja vu from January 1 when the team returned to Houston with road wins in Bowling Green and El Paso. Pera’s team promptly dropped two winnable home games where we were slight favorites in each. I expect us to be slight favorites over Charlotte next Thursday, setting up the Saturday UAB game to be important in the final standings.

I’d like to think the team turned the corner last night in Denton and is heading for a magical season that draws national interest in Pera. But let’s see how the next 5 games go. They will be key to our seeding for the tournament.

I put that in there on purpose. It's a nod to the folks who over-react like crazy after 1 tough loss - 1 good win or 1 bad loss does not help generate a realistic appraisal of a team's overall ability. The people I posted it for have yet to post in this thread - not a shocker because you only see them post basketball thoughts when things are going badly.

And while I'm sure the goal is to get a top 5 seed and 1st round bye for the tournament, the fact of the matter is our last 7 conference games have all been close games decided at the very end. I'm not sure our seed is going to matter much - we'll have a tough 1st game regardless of who we play.

Sure happy we kept Fiedler compared to this guy who I’m watching be a non-factor vs. Canisius.

Zach Crisler (Fairfield) is averaging 2.2 points per game, and shooting 29.7% from the field.

It was never a one or the other. It was very clear from the get-go of their Freshman years that Fiedler was head and shoulders superior to Crisler. Crisler reminded me of the twin 7-footers we had in the mid-to-late 1970s (or McCurry on recent WBB teams). All they had was height. No footwork. No finesse. No athleticism.

"Tall Paul" Fichtinger and Doug Ekeroth. Agree that Fichtinger was not athletic, but Ekeroth could have been a serviceable player (with decent athleticism) but I don't think he had much of a work ethic.

lol Both were in the same class (1979) in Baker, and I actually roomed with Doug my Junior year. They were both good dudes, but neither had much skills on the basketball court.

I actually ran into Doug years later, working for Harris County in the Real Property Records area. Very nice guy.

UNT rebounds well from the loss, knocking off UAB on the road today 63-52. UAB has now lost 5 of its last 6 in conference play - hard to figure.
