Most of the predictions in this CBS sports article are useless, but it does talk about St Peters run last year.

The thing that stood out is that at this point last season, St Peters was below .500 and 228 NET ranking. If that doesn’t give hope to a lot of teams, I don’t know what would. Even at this point in the season, virtually nothing is impossible.

...I think they are trying to say that Gonzaga, although a 'mid-major', is now in actuality a 'major', or whatever the next level up form 'mid-major' is... 03-drunk03-lmfao but yeah, the fact that they are in the same conference makes it tough to say one is 'major' and one is 'mid-major'...

They're a major program in an otherwise mid-major conference. They're a unicorn, there's no one else like them.

And yes I think the term "mid-major" is silly too.

Where did that quote come from? I couldn't find it in the linked article. I think all they are saying is that Gonzaga can't be considered a potential Cinderella but St. Mary's can.

...especially in basketball... I get the football parlance (as honestly, we are at 'P2' status now anyway, with a few others unwittingly wandering in every once in awhile...) But the WCC is a pretty decent conference, at least the top half-ish - I know St. Mary's, San Francisco, and Pepperdine have all seemed to be respectable to pretty stout over the last 3-4 seasons...

From my head. Lol.

I agree Gonzaga is a major at this point, but it's not like St. Marys is coming out of nowhere at this point.

BYU too, but I know, they are big 12 bound next year.
Gonzaga should join the PAC if they can. If the PAC doesn’t raid the MWC then the Zags should consider them. A very solid western conference with schools with major hoop facilities like UNM, UNLV, SDSU, Utah St, Boise St and Nevada. It would be fun playing schools with big arenas and sell out crowds for them. I would think. Big East is just too far away.
