I can get behind beefing up the hockey league. I’d like to personally hand Jack Swarbick his notice that his hockey team can hit the road.

Me too. Less Big Ten is always a plus.

Swarbrick made a mistake joining for hockey.

...yeah, I'm kinda jazzed they are setting up shop in Nashville, which we 'Hamians float up to on a regular basis for concerts, etc. - so should be able to hit one whenever they are up and running... I'm sure they are good, but they have a LOT of hype to live up to... 03-phew

Matt knows how to order in Portuguese at Fogo de Chao next door to the B1G office. I've only stayed at the Aloft hotel next door.

Matt is much more qualified.

That must be an old reference, I've never heard the term before and I didn't find anything useful on it on Google. Thanks.

I don’t think he had much of an option. Atlantic Hockey, ECAC, and the WCHA were all too small time for the Irish.

The NCHC wanted your hockey, but only if it was going to be part of their tv deal. I’m not sure what happened with Hockey East. Did they boot you out because of the travel?

Satire isn't for everybody, it's cool.

I mean maybe he’s just playing fans, but while the premise of him being commissioner is tongue in cheek, a lot of his proposals seem like sincere thoughts on what he thinks is the best path for the B1G. It’s a satirical framework for providing an interesting POV for just another opinion piece on what he thinks should happen in CFB or with the B1G in particular.

For all the access to the process he’s had, he still seems a little naive.

Do you work for Disney?

The point to the "campaign" is his ideas would be better for the Big 10. He's not trying to run ESPN.

I didn't say that I agreed with his ideas. I just read the article and thought it was humorous, so I shared it.

Not booted.

Swarbrick pulled ND out because of bus travel.

Hey, I was agreeing with you.

ND should have stayed in hockey East.

I know many Notre Dame hockey alums, and they all unanimously agree with joining Big Ten hockey.

I see. I thought maybe you had a short term deal with Hockey East that Hockey East let expire.

I only see 3 maybe 4 bus trips in the B10 for Irish Hockey. I guess that’s better than 0.

Matt's daughters know all the B1G mascots (they have a little over a year to learn Bruin and the difference between a Trojan and a Spartan). And imagine father-daughter day at the office:

"Hello Mr. Badger, Mr. Gopher, Daddy, urr, Mr. Brown, is in this office." "Hello Mr. Sun, Mr. Turtle"

Even during the NCAA convention?

There were fairly long bus trips AFTER a flight to the East Coast.

Swarbrick got tired of that, I guess.

Can you imagine the fun Mike Leach would have had with the B1G mascots?

No, I understand why they're doing it. I legitimately don't think it's good business over a *long* period of time, because big-time college sports faces long-term demographic challenges, especially a league that depends on non-rich people in the Rust Belt as an important. Paying for streaming credits to fans who actually buy tickets (or heck, season ticket programs) won't cost an extraordinary amount of money, but it can be a flagship part of a broader campaign to become more fan-friendly...which will allow the league to earn more revenue directly from fans, and perhaps most importantly, collect more of their data.

There's no meaningful pressure to do stuff like this now because Big Ten ADs and presidents have no incentive to think very long-term about anything....all of them are gone in six to eight years, and they're judged on how much cash they can grab *now*. I don't think that's the best stewardship of important (and mostly public) brands.

Short term vs long term thinking?

I'm going to echo freshtop here. If the Big 10 doesn't hire you, I've got a new challenge for you to consider.
