South Florida's court looks like someone smeared guacamole all across inside the 3-point lines.

No way it's worse than Oregon's. That's the worst court I've ever seen.

It does not translate to TV. I find it frustrating to watch a game, it washes out. My guess, in person it is pretty cool.

Honestly, Oregon's court looks like a cluster mess. The first time I saw it, my thought was the janitor incharge of varnishing the floor must have run out and just said "screw it"....That being said, if Phil Knight wants to drop a big old deuce at half court is anybody at Oregon gonna' tell Phil no?

IF you’re going to get creative with court design, I like city skylines.

It's pretty amazing that you can have a surface applied like that and it plays like normal to the feet and ball.
One of the volleyball rules is that the court can't be rough at all so when a player dives for a save they can continue in a slide. I saw one game where a player slid under a press table (fold-up table with some sort of cloth curtain towards the court). They had to have someone come slide them back out. If they tried to lift up or crawl out they would have hit the bottom of the table.

That was my question. I think they have had this design since 2010.

I'm a somebody!!" — as he fails to understand that the truest ways of self-expression are through our intellect, wit, talents and communication skills. And not our appearance. These courts are absurd on various levels.
But the young men who play college basketball love this type stuff. It's flashy and "sexy." Youth is about energy and vibrancy.
These courts are for the players and young fans — and not for me. So I get.
Bob Knight, were he coaching today, would not allow such a "busy and showy" basketball court. And that is one reason (among many), The General would struggle to land top talent. Times change. People change.
I believe the fad peaked years ago and is on the downslope. Scanning the Top 25, I believe only TCU has one of these gimmick courts so I’m not sure how much of an influence it is. I don’t even remember which school first did the cityscape (Memphis?), but then every peanut school felt they had to jump on the bandwagon.
The absence of busy courts doesn’t stop the best programs from attracting kids. Also, I agree with Ken. I’m sure the courts don’t look as bad in person.
Well said as the point relates to North Carolina, Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, etc. Those programs could have the most bland courts and it won't be harmful.
But for programs like Memphis, offering a "cool" court design could be (in theory, at least) simply one element of many (much like, as another example, having a rapper at Midnight Madness) that, collectively, can prove helpful for recruiting players and for drawing young urban fans.
I do hope the "busy court" fad is fading.
I don't much care for these three Memphis Tiger court designs (Vanderbilt once had a "Nashville skyline" court design, by the way; however, I can't find an image online):

I actually liked this Memphis court design!!
It's kinda like this: some teams prefer traditional helmets, logos, and basketball court floors.
The University of Pittsburgh is a great example of this!! Remember how much the Pittsburgh fans loved it when they got their old football helmets back?? Traditionalist to a tee!! Pittsburgh fans to rest of the world: "Harumph!!! We love our tradition!! Harumph!!"
If you look at Pittsburgh's tradition, you can see why they love it so much.
Oregon fans are like, let's be different, and start our own traditions. Why?? Oregon fans: we don't really have any, and you have start somewhere!!!
Imagine Raymond James Stadium without the pirate ship. I'm sure there are traditionalists who would look down their noses and say that it doesn't belong in the stadium. Did the Bucs listen to the traditionalists?? Nope!!
I'm curious to see the Memphis court (the link is not working for me).
Agree with your overall assessment. Spot on.
I like the candy stripe warmup pants Indiana still uses (and the unadorned court for that matter). But I like some more "edgy" uniforms (and even courts). It varies. But if it works ... so be it.
Last year, Kansas had a home uniform with what looked like a few blackish lines at the lower sides of the tops--you had to look closely to see that it was the original Rules of Basketball written by Dr Naismith (which rules reside in a part of Allen Fieldhouse).

Oddly enough, Naismith was not a very good college coach. With his background in the YMCA he was more interested in healthful sports for young men. Had his lead been followed college sports might be more intramural.
Phog Allen was much more successful and instrumental in formation of the NCAA, the NCAA tournament, and basketball rules in general. There was a proposed amendment to basketball rules that led to formation of the NABC and later the NCAA. The change would have in effect would have eliminated dribbling.
Remember back when soccer goal keepers could not run with the ball. So instead they would release the ball take a few steps and retrieve the "free" ball on the rebound from the ground. Basketball dribbling can be seen as a pretext to avoid being charged with traveling with the ball. You aren't carrying the ball or even catching it between dribbles.
In 1939, Allen organized the first NCAA Tournament. His papers (at KU) include the roster of the schools organized by the eight districts from which the 8 schools would be selected.

Just turned-on Oregon and Stanford on CBS. Oregon's court alone should keep them out of the B1G. It's unwatchable.
