RE: UT #MACtion game at Fifth Third Field???
Reading the article posted above for the third time for clarity, it seems obvious to me this was a complete fabrication from Briggs and not an idea under discussion by any of the quoted sources. Does anyone have any info besides Briggs imaginings? The Blades ethics are on full display, misleading the public for page hits. Briggs is a worm.

that's a pretty harsh angle. Yeah, they are generating a story out of more "what ifs" than "what is" but that's part of what newspapers do (along with factual reporting and investigative journalism). A fabrication would be presenting the potential game as if it is taking place based on phony sources and details. I see this as Briggs throwing the idea out there and trying to generate a newsy conversation about it. Every paper has some columnists whose job (or part of it) is to write these types of stories.

As for the idea, I'm for it as a once a year midweek MACtion thing. The students don't really show up to these games unless it's BG and the overall fan base is truncated by the logistics of mid work/school week 3 1/2-4 hour tv games. The MAC is wedded to the concept but needs to demand a 6 or 7 pm start time. It's ridiculous playing a cold weather tv football game at 8 p.m. on a Wednesday that doesn't end till near midnight.

My soapbox is that TV and replay have been slowly killing mid level college football attendance by making the games too long, while simultaneously providing a nicer viewing experience on the screen. Lots of my family still goes to Rockets games but they leave early (sometimes at halftime) because it's almost bedtime by then for the grown-ups and late already for the kids.

A downtown game has it's advantages in that it's close to lots of transportation routes, provides a bar and restaurant scene in walking distance and taps into a stadium that has a good, but different, popular association w summer fun.

Then again , most UT fans will always believe that college football/basketball should always be play on a college campus, no matter what.

UT #MACtion game at Fifth Third Field???
I think we as fans should reach out to Mr Blair and share our feelings

I love the idea of a hockey game and a rink on campus for a period of time for recreation.

And as the Fort Wayne resident on the board. Komets not Comets

Glass Bowl and walking campus is something I do enjoy. This? It would be very expensive for the city. I can't see it worth the logistics and trouble for the hour a few fans might get on a work-day. They can barely get to a 7pm high school game on a Friday.

I'd attend on a weekend if it were BG giving up the home game.

How will they handle our season seating?
No way should this game be a bgSUCKS game. We put too many butts in The Glassbowl for that game. I’d say Eastern. It would probably still be a sellout.
As for getting temporary seats okayed, goodluck. Because I believe that was nixed by the fire Marshall at The Glassbowl. But I would probably be in for a game on the Mud Hens home field.

Then put it in the editorial.

I agree this is their usual cringy approach. If duh'local is looking to sponsor an event, pay for it, we have a different view of this. It's like this "city flag" approach. Someone with visibility not really earned from doing, creating, and personal risking wants it to happen for a friend and they give the appearance it is free and desired. It's dishonest.

Setting aside the debatables that the CITY (not the university) can do this safely, logistically and just concentrating on who gains if anyone.

The game is already on TV. It's pretty much only a hopeful exposure gain for the city and that's if there's no rain. I don't see how the atmosphere can be "better" on a Thursday. Not ruling it out, not trying to be unfair because it's not attractive to me. There's no time between work, gathering the family and getting downtown to take advantage of anything downtowney. All I see is a bunch of drunks cramming them in as quick as they can before game time.

The photo-ops will look great though. Quaranteed, any wannabe or alreadybe will have their facebook photos taken.

I agree. I can't really come up with a reason why to do it. Different for difference's sake? It's a lot of trouble for at most an hour's worth of pretend tail-gating, bar drinking and a lousy place to see a football game.

How to do it, still intrigues. The only way to even remotely replicate a tail-gaiting environment would need get Owen's Corning on-board. They've the only decent sized parking lot within walking. Would a parking garage work? Be loud for sure.

If it's the downtown businesses that would benefit, they should have a hand in paying for the darn thing. That's a lot of security and football fans expect free parking.

There's long been talk amongst local sports message boarders, whether the city could support a small domed multi-use stadium in the downtown area. 20,000 to do the things that small hockey arena can't do so we can compete with the other mid-sized cities within 3 hours of Toledo.

Wait
Someone thinks City should build a dome???

Only idiots who have no clue what they’re talking about. We couldn’t even build the appropriate sized hockey arena. There’s no call, need or funds for those farcical imaginings. Easty has a tenuous grasp on reality.

The Blade ethics??? How is it unethical for a reporter to simply speculate out side the box ideas....he never said nor implied it was topic of current discussion or announcement in the works.

and as to MACtion game at MudHens stadium-- thumbs down here, sight lines from stands for football fields fit until baseball fields are terrible--and sorry I can see the appeal of hockey outdoors in January.... but a mid week November football game in downtown baseball field seems like terrible idea...hope it never happens (you lose any and all student attendance) and won't draw replacements from casual or non-football fans

not like we have great student attendance for mid-week games (minus bgSUCKS) anyways.

true--but would be far less if downtown---and I don't think that loss in attendance would be made up by adding casual football fans flocking to a cold mid week November game at FifthThird Field. (who otherwise would not already be going to same game when in Glass Bowl)
