Become a bit of a foul fest on both teams.

5-7 on 3. the kid certainly earned it.

Did we lose a free throw coach?

The last few minutes rough with that line-up but I enjoyed it. 10 get to play and Cochran gets a needed heal day.

Oh, no doubt.

Nice win. I don't know what Farmer was up to with a few seconds left. Why not just dribble it out?

On the post-game show, Mark and Jay said that if Tyler Cochran plays just 1 more game, he is not eligible to take a medical redshirt. So that is most likely why they are going to wait a month and see how he is doing to see if they want to play him, or have him use the medical RS. I'd say just have him use his RS.

Jumped over to the CMU - Buffalo game in time to see Buffalo come back, go up by two, then CMU run an excellent last second play to tie. CMU on a 7 pt run in OT.

I understood it the same way. If he comes back in a month, it would line up with a game against Miami on Feb 14. Counting that game there would be 6 left, not counting the tournament.

How will he be after a month off? What if he injures it again?

Tough. They have to consider next year too. If he RS, that changes things.

RE: Toledo at NIU. MBB Game Thread
Both Edu and Lorenttson instructed to come up at the top of the key, but still be able to get back and defend the basket. Edu needs to finished at the rim with authority, good to see him get 7 rebounds. Now I would like to see Edu start blocking shots with authority. Glad to see Wilson, Lorenttson, and Farmer get good minutes out there. I thought NIU color man, coach Mark Lindo, was very complimentary about UT and provided good commentary on certain things happening in the game. Too many nitpicking fouls during the game and at the end, refs n need to swallow the whistle and let play go on. NIU had 4 players that did not play that were hurt, with their leading scorer on the bench. Coit, their second leading scorer had I believe only 6 points and he was hounded all evening by the Rocket defense. He finished 0/9 3 point FG attempts. Next challenge , OU.

Moss missed 2 bunnies, Lotenston missed one, the kid at the end of the bench too, and Edu bricked back to back fts. I was 3 pts short of the over, and the cover was easy.

Damn you Dekalb.

Toledo did what it needed to do against an overmatched team missing their best player. We criticize Toledo for a lot of things (some deservingly so), but TKs teams normally do a very good job of not playing down to the level of their opponents. One interesting comment from TK on the postgame show was that he said that Edu needs to think “offense” more so that opponents need to defend all 5 players, not 4. Up this week are a couple of winnable but dangerous games against Ohio U and Buffalo - games in which Toledo will need to play well to win. With Cochran out for at least 4 weeks, it will be interesting to see who takes over his minutes, i.e., more minutes for Maddox or increased playing time for Farmer.

AJ's not the only one the defense backs off of. Sometimes there's no defender within 15 feet of Raheim Moss. In 30 minutes Moss had 5 pts and went 0-5 from the field. He did make a couple pretty slick assists and had 3 steals. AJ scored 7 pts in 17 minutes and could have had more if the guards looked for him more in the post and rolling off the ball screens. If you watch the replay he is frequently well positioned in the post but the guards seemed to ignore him. More importantly he had 9 boards, was the leading rebounder in the game and did a good job keeping NIU off the glass.

AJ definitely needs to work on free throws, a couple of those misses were ugly. He may never be a 20 pts per game scoring machine but if he becomes more assertive going to the hoop and the ball handlers learn to trust him he'll score in double figures and draw attention from the defense.

With AJ and Raheims offensive struggles it should be difficult to have them both on the floor together but against NIU that didn't seem to be a problem.

I took the first half -6.5 line. Anything else scares me in these games with double digit spreads.

I bet that I could take a pee and make it back to the chair before the commercial ended. I should have bet the over.

With more playing time these last few games, Edu seems to be a bit more comfortable with the flow of the game…
Just needs to be more assertive in the paint, especially when finishing !!
Clasp that ball and slam it down young man !!
