I just can’t believe the transfer portal hasn’t been regulated yet. How the heck can you build a team when players can just enter the portal at anytime? Have transfer window from end of season until February signing day.
It's utterly ridiculous. The MAC has been relagated to a farm league. It is a "team sport," is it not? The NCAA should be sued over this BS. This and the inequitable distribution of TV money.
Let's start with the NCAA is an association of its members who are represented by their respective university Presidents. Policies and Rules for participation and transfers are agreed to by the NCAA members (ie the universities). It appears that the members think the current transfer rules are adequate. (Not that I agree)
The NCAA distributes $$'s from basically the Basketball tourney (not football, where each conference cuts its own deal) Tourney dollars are distributed first to participants based on how many games they play, and then across the NCAA membership. Football revenue was carved out years ago, when essentially what is now the P5 threatened to leave the Association if they weren't allowed to keep the $$'s "they earned". (back then their wasn't ESPN, and only 2-3 games on network TV a week)
The results are that the group of 5 are second class citizens and unfortunately it will likely get worse.

And P5 will do anything to increase their cut.

Exactly, that gives players enough time to think through their happiness level... has to be done
Can't be done though...these are also still students who must be enrolled to take part in program activities, and any other student under the sun can transfer to another University up to that date as well, so they'd get the book thrown at them if they restricted it too much. They need to get into their new schools by census dates (normally the second week of classes) but the NCAA has created portal "windows", a lot like the windows in European Soccer, to try to mitigate the issues. This is unfortunately the new normal...you can't close Pandora's Box.

I think academics probably has something to do with it (he was a non-qualifier out of high school) and UC has been hunting for bigger fish than Dameer. As weird as it is, a lot of the kids who enter the portal end up at schools that are very marginal improvements if at all...it's just about having a different situation in general for them probably.

He picked Memphis. Memphis has been a .500 program the last few years.

like most of the teams MAC just played in Bowls? Their soph QB, from recent QB factory Denton, TX had 3700 yds passing in 22. They have a balanced rushing. It's a good landing for him. Opportunity and more exposure in a higher rated conference, IF he steps up. Good luck to him.

Memphis will be front runner with ECU, UTSA and Tulane for the league. I was on staff with Silverfield. I hope he does well.

Yeah, Memphis is going to be in prime position to win or at the very least compete for championships in a better conference than the MAC, and with a better track record of sending offensive skill position players to the league.

We'll miss him but I think UT will be fine.
O should be improved next year based on line upgrades and more experience.
All RB's/QB's return with a good core of TE's to boot.
UT should view 2022 as a true "launching pad" for '23.

I hope the O line will be better, but with the same coaches, I wonder.

Advantage of transfers. They've had a year or two of Big Ten/ACC Coaching.

and weight and strength. Not saying that's better than ours but probably better than a lot of places portals might be coming from.
