I think it’s time to try something new with this program. Maybe even pulling the plug and saving some money. So far this year:
Kent St 9, Ohio St. 32 (understandable)
Kent St. 15, NIU 18. (Almost)
Kent St. 12, Campbell 29 (used to be competitive at Virginia Duels, no more)
Kent St. 9, South Dakota St. 32
We have been outscored 117-45, have only won 12 out of 40 matches,
Scored 9 bonus points and given up 33.
It just doesn’t get any better. A turn around just doesn’t seem to be coming. On to the basketball game!!!

Our 0-11 wrestling team finally won one today beating Bloomsburg 32-9 in the last meet of the year. Can you even imagine how bad being a Bloomsburg fan must be? On to the MAC championships.

Really sad how the program declined.

I have a couple friends that used to wrestle for Bloom, they used to be a good program.

Maybe it's time for a coach that hasn't been here for 20+ years. See if some new blood can turn it around. Clearly Jim isn't going to be able to.

His old assistant is now the head coach at Cleveland St. You know the Cleveland St. that had to have the students give them an interest free loan to keep the program alive. They are now beating us. I am pretty sure you are right Danny.

Either time to shutdown the program (which no one would love) or gotta make a change to see if we can get back to respectability.

RE: Wrestling
I don’t know enough about wresting as some but I wonder if merging with the EWL has weakened our program by hurting recruiting. There are only 5 remaining true MAC
programs. There are at least 3 programs in the EWL (maybe more) that are D2 schools except for wrestling.

I wish we'd stop the 'shut down the program' talk. Wrestling is a great sport and those kids are trying hard. Maybe changes are needed, but we're not Akron that walks away from tough times as soon as our President runs the University into the ground!

i wasn't clear in my post i don't want them to shut it down. But harsh reality is with challenging times financially and with title 9 you are limited in shutting down women programs there aren't many options. and with 75-80 D1 wrestling programs country wide unfortunately wrestling becomes an easy target.

Buckeye Bucks. OHSAA Division 2.
Kent State Wrestling should keep an eye on the unsigned Bucks this weekend.

Plus the Brecksville kids, the Perry and Wadsworth kids, the Elyria kids etc.
I know it’s not that easy but I think NE Ohio is where it all starts. NW Ohio as well. Get those kids on campus. The sooner the better.

I’m afraid coach knows that and he’s just not getting them to commit. He used to do pretty well in Western Pa too. Not recently though.

Every coach in America knows that. What upgrades to facilities have we done in the last 10 years? How about our coaching staff budget? Are those things a selling point or have they been decimated by tone-deaf administrators?
