Sign me up for that kind of not being able to make it...
We did sign up. Had to vacate our 38 win season and National Championship game as a result. KY can keep him.
Ya, I recall how much the fanbase hated that timeframe... The most boring period of Memphis basketball. They can take the banner but they cannot take what all of witnessed and experienced. I would trade the excitement surrounding that time period, even knowing it would be vacated, for the decade that followed. At least we had something for the NCAA to strip away from us...
Counterpoint that with the ensuing swing of the pendulum, or does seeing objective reality hurt your narrative? It's easy to isolate one facet of the past while ignoring the other. Answer this for me. How badly did it hurt the fan base and how was the ensuing chasm we found ourselves in with the revolving door of mediocre to poor coaches and seasons? Was it worth it to further tarnish our program?
Based on what you're saying, you sound like the kind of man who pines for an old girlfriend. It doesn't matter that she stabbed you in the ribs and screwed your friend, while you were at your happiest in the relationship. She was hot and made you feel good about yourself for a moment in time. Admit it or not, that's what you're essentially doing here.
What in the world are you talking about? You are moving the goalposts here to try and create some strange narrative about me and ex girlfriends...
Original poster I responded to said he could not make it at Kentucky, I responded showing he has been pretty successful there. You brought up vacating wins and I responded directly to that simply stating that that run was a lot more fun, despite vacating wins, than the 10 years followed. And you respond with some off the wall diatribe about ex-girlfriends? BTW. I have never even stated an opinion on taking Cal back or not because the obvious reality is that it would never be considered by either party. I just get a kick out of people that hold so much animosity toward him still that they want to act like he has not been successful at Kentucky.
You can go project you past relationship issues somewhere else...
But to the actual basketball related points.
1.) Rose was ruled ineligible for not responding about his SAT because he was busy being a multimillionaire NBA player. This was not some recruiting violation against Cal
2.) Cal had nothing to do with poor coaching choices by the administration. But we also had Scott Drew lined up until a reporter and admin blew that up. We ended up with Pasnter who admin chose to hang onto far too long (again not Cal) and then he was replaced by Tubby. By all accounts and on paper, Tubby was a very good hire, he just turned out to be a terrible fit here. Again, nothing to do with Cal. And now we have Penny who you seem quite enamored with. Maybe you would like to credit Cal for Penny being here but that seems a bit far fetched to me.
3.) Tarnished our program? Ya, okay... I am sure that is why we are not in a P5 league.
