Re: Dec. Early Signing And Transfer Portal
I have to say that the SEC Commish echoes my views on this subject:

https://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/sec-fo...-december/

I would also move the transfer portal opening to after bowl season, as well as training for the NFL combine. My feeling is that since teams were chosen for college bowl games based on their body of work for the 2022 season, and with a certain set roster of players, those players should all participate in the bowl games before moving on.

RE: Re: Dec. Early Signing And Transfer Portal
The problem for transferring is the academic calendar more than anything else. They need to get out of one school and into another during that winter break and everyone's calendar is different. I would love to see the off season occur after the season (including the coaching carousel) but I just don't see how.

I think the best way to fix the opt out problem is to make it compulsory for NIL deals.

I think the solution to the transfer calendar is to move it after spring ball. Make it so spring practice be completed by the end of April and then open the transfer portal on May 1 so that all transfers happen over the summer.

As for the opt out I'm not sure you can truly fix that. Making bowl games compulsory with NIL deals is antithetical to the NCAA being forced to allow them following the courts recognizing that the NCAA has no business regulating such things.

Ban NIL money and watch sanity return.

The NCAA couldn't do it but the collectives should. Make it part of their deal that they can't opt out of the bowl and still receive their full payment. It wouldn't do much at the high end but it might make a difference for the middling players who are going to train to get up to the 5th rd.

I like this solution. It would force kids to kinda face reality for a bit. Get through spring ball and maybe some would realize it ain't as bad as they think. They would get a better idea of their position competition with early enrollees, etc. Maybe the caveat would be allowing kids to enter the transfer portal and sign at a new school immediately anytime there is a coaching change.

We can't go on treating these kids like they are mature enough to handle a million dollar check, but not mature enough to make free agency decisions.

That's a fair point, but how do you convince them to actually do it?

I also agree with that last sentence. Head coaching changes should automatically open the transfer portal for players at that school who want to leave, but incoming transfers would probably need to remain in the spring to avoid the wild west.

20k deal, with 10k payable at the end of the season if you are still on the roster? I am not sure how collectives work operationally. In a perfect world the bowl payments would go direct to the participants. They are basically fake non profits who give away worthless tickets at an inflated value and soak the schools to cover their costs. Make them put some cash together to stay relavent and in operation.
