Adding a new stadium for 901FC will end up eliminating 1/3-1/2 of the available parking spots on the site.

For the most part, the Tan and Purple lots will be gone.

there has been a lot of talk about turning the old Coke bottling plant into a large milti-level parking garage to offset the losses.

I would propose using the spot as the site for the new sport specific fotbol stadium.

that's going where the Colisuem currently sits.

Liberty Stadium was built by the city primarily as the home for the University of Memphis football program. Its construction prompted the Liberty Bowl Football Game to relocate to Memphis. Since 1965 Those two entities have been the constant occupants of the stadium. Since 1974 five different professional football teams and one professional soccer team called it home. Since 1990 the Southern Heritage Classic has been a tenant also.

I know that Liberty Stadium has been the home of Tiger Football for 57 years. It is a proud home in a landmark building owned by the City most Tiger fans live in. It is not a crackerjacks box of an aluminum stadium. It will soon be one of the best college stadiums in the country. Live with that!

I remember the Liberty Bowl showing Tennessee fans singing Rocky Top on our Jumbotron during our home game against UT in 2000. The stadium manager said the stadium didn’t belong to the UofM & the game was between 2 local teams.

Yep, I remember how pissed people were in the stadium that game. Myself included.

I actually called the guy (Johnny… can’t remember his last name) after that game & he made the mistake of picking up the phone. He was a complete ass, but I’m guessing I was one many who called & chewed him out that day. “Johnny” explained they were trying to sell skyboxes for the Liberty Bowl game & the stadium was the city’s & not the school’s.

Since then, the relationship with the city has been much better, but for those that say the stadium was built back in the 60’s for MSU, they’d be as accurate if they meant Mississippi State & not Memphis. Hell, before that UT embarrassment in 2000, they wouldn’t even allow for anything to be painted blue & certainly no permanent Memphis State logos or references. Heck, I remember it being an act of Congress to get the Tiger logo painted at midfield.
