If that Thornton layup is not #1 in the ESPN Top 10...there's something wrong with the world.

Ain't never seen it before and will never see it again. What ever shoe company he wears needs to do an NIL. Nice win and how did the Chips beat Michigan?

GO HUSKIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Chips top two scorers injured / did not play tonight.

And we don't even climb out of the cellar!!!!

In all seriousness...

After 3 league games, Kent St is 3-0 and everyone else is either 2-1 or 1-2.

Chips top two scorers injured / did not play tonight. Though their best player didn’t play against Michigan. But the guy Bass who made the game winning shot at Michigan didn’t play tonight. Michigan shot terrible, 35% and 27% from three compared to NIU shooting 50% and 44% from three.

People here have given me so much crap but when you make a good amount more 3’s than your opponent everything else usually doesn’t matter and you’re hard to beat!

I said that same thing to Mrs. GBF after it happened. It was actually pretty amusing.

The shoe play was a "bonus" ESPN top 10 play.

I generally agree with you College----but I'm not sure how this makes sense on this string....we made two more 3s than CMU last night. I think the stat taht CMU only made twelve 2 pointers is more glaring. (we were world busters with 17).

And, good Lord---can anybody make a free throw??? At 55% we were better than them. Yikes.

Fun game. Kept waiting for NIU to deflate and they never did. Good sign moving forward.

Still hoping they can qualify for the MAC Tournament this year without Williams, this performance was a good sign that it's possible.

Nutter sucks at free throws. Sucked in JUCO (but way worse than this year so far...) and I don't see him being all that great because apparently its not a learnable skill (#sarcasm...)

And Thornton is a below average FT shooter but not as bad as Nutter and Crump...and Durosinmi. He's in his 3rd year at NIU. His first year he shot 61.9% (13 of 21...not the largest of sample sizes), then his 2nd year he improved a lot to what was figured to be his norm at 73.5% (36 of 49) but this year he's back down to 66.7% (16 of 24). In JUCO, he shot 75% (63 of 84).

So, he's all over the place. I have to think he's at least a 70% FT shooter and that may pan out over the course of the year (24 FTs isn't that many) but he was not good yesterday.

I was a little worried when we lost Durosinmi and Crump and only had Ibarguen left in the post and he had 4 fouls (he eventually got that 5th foul) leaving us with Nutter as our big...

I will say this. The last two fouls called on Crump were total bullsh!t. I think it was Harding from CMU who is way bigger than Crump (2 inches and about 50 pounds) and was just flailing into Crump and Anthony kept getting called for a foul where he wasn't initiating contact at all. Harding was going out of his way to flop into him and he fouled him out.

There's going to be enough toss up games for us in this conference based on the talent of our opponents that qualifying for the MACT is absolutely possible even without Williams.

Granted, if Williams is indeed out for the year, it would be nice to get some of the other guys back (Russell, Konan and/or Amos....but the first two are much more my priority to get healthy).

I know whats wrong with Konan. I have an idea what's wrong with Amos. But I'm completely in the dark when it comes to what is wrong with Russell.

Last night Amos still had a boot on his right foot so it has to be an ankle or foot issue. Russell last night still had a heavy bandage and brace on his right wrist and hand. Williams had a full, heavy knee brace on his right leg. I was told by a reliable source he is out for the year with a torn ACL.

You are correct. Once Harding knew what he could get away with he took full advantage of the referees and Crump.

A nail biter. With 10 minutes left and up by 20, I knew NIU could still lose.
With 5 minutes left and up by 20, I thought NIU should win.
Not until 1 minute left and up by 18 did I finally stopped biting my nails.

A real fun game that provides hope for the rest of the season.

So what is the "crap"? IS there someone somewhere on this planet who will argue that making 3's is not good? No, shooting 44% 3's is good. Shooting 13% 3's is not so good.
Why did we shoot 44% instead of 13% 3's against CMU? I assume CMU defense might play a role. We only made 2 more 3's than CMU but we did make 7 more FG than CMU. So which was the key?

RE: MBB @ NIU vs. CMU
Here is to hoping all the rest of the MAC teams play as sloppy as CMU.
Just as in their loss to EMU they had 22 turnovers against NIU as well. When you turning the ball over a lot more than the other team I would assume your odds of winning go down significantly. Speaking of turnovers NIU had 14 with Thornton accounting for 7 of those! Slop.
And our bench sucked. Durosinmi played 8 minutes and fouled out with zero points.
Plintauskas (blue shoes) apparently is NOT the 3 pt shooter that we thought he might be after going 4-4 against Northern Iowa. Since then he's gone 3-19 including the airball (0-2) against CMU. Hunter played 29 minutes but I cringe every time he takes a shot.

Some of that is definitely opponent defense but it's also just plain random streakiness and if the two come together (poor D + hot shooting), you get 44% on the night.

I watched most of the game (3/4 of it or so) and to me, Coit looked locked in.

But ultimately, a high 3PT percentage just means the team shot well and a low probably means they didn't and when you shoot well...you typically win and when you don't....you don't.
