Could UGA-GT-GSU-Emory & 'Bama-Auburn-UAB-Samford create research quad
Hear me out: I have been doing some research on the history of the research triangle in NC, and I found something very interesting: the state of North Carolina was not that much different than the states of Georgia & Alabama before the research triangle took off. The research triangle was formed as a private park, established & run by Duke, NC State, and UNC. They weren't forced to do so, but they did it to help out their state, with some help from their state's governor. For the state of Georgia, imagine what could happen if you got Emory, Georgia Tech, UGA , and even GSU together for a similar research park in Atlanta!!
Here's another possibility: have 'Bama, Auburn, UAB, and Samford all get together and put together a research park in Birmingham. How many companies would be willing to invest in the states of Georgia & Alabama if we did this??? This is just something that has captivated my mind today.

...I know that Auburn is renovating an old five-story office building in downtown B'ham for a 'satellite classrooms' deal (primarily for Architecture, but I think Business and maybe Engineering might have some interests in it as well). Of course, UAB and UAT are 'intertwined' in med research anyway (I have no idea as to the breakdown, but ultimately the Medical School in Birmingham is "University of Alabama Medical School")... UAB has other specific medical 'entities', but... I was a lowly Engineering student, so never wandered over to the Med region of campus too much
But the general idea would be cool - yeah add Samford if they want in as well... There's a lot of 'incubators' in B'ham for startups, which I guess includes 'independent' research ventures... University collabs may already be a thing, I'm not sure...
Auburn also just finished up some type of 'Business/University' complex for collaboration down there as well, so... things ARE goin' on...

Emory and GT already collaborate with their Joint Biomed/Bio Engineering program. And Tech has achieved synergy with businesses via their Midtown expansion across the Connector. I don't see how you could bring UGA into the mix.

I'm fully aware of that, but I want UGA to be a part of this also. UGA has a biomed sciences major; maybe that is what UGA can offer??
