Any idea on why the thought of elevating Diehl wasn't considered ? Just curious ...

Don't know that it wasn't. Not sure if he isn't ready to recruit or if Ryan feels he needs a little more time. Might split the line into two sections, IOL and Tackles and have Diehl work with one of those groups as a GA. Remember, in his current capacity he can't coach on the field. Just have to wait and see what his role is moving forward.
I hope RS will take that approach, I understand that Dielh makes an in-depth study of each opponent's defense. Taking instructions from an all-pro
offensive lineman should be a plus in recruiting.

IMO CRS's focus on the OL is one of paramount importance to him. I believe Myers and Diehl will work well together and I hope Diehl moves to an on field coach this season (his second as a college coach). This off season is very encouraging to me, and I am now certain I will be in my seat at Liberty Stadium at the home opener. I haven't forgotten my frustration from last season, but CRS is giving many reasons for me to admit that not only was i intentionally harsh, but i could well have been ignorant as well.

The big 12 must be kiddie league after watching their champ get the &%#@^ beat out of them by Georgia yesterday. Tell me again why the Big 12 does not want us. If they think that we would make their league look weaker then that would be impossible after watching their champ. What a joke !!!!

He wasn't fired! The receivers coach was promoted to OC and Myers was passed over. He was a very fine and successful OL coach at Iowa St so when he was passed over he opted out of Iowa St. We caught a break here. Maybe things are starting to break the Tiger way. CRS has made 3 very strong hires, after he chopped off the dead wood. Got to give him credit.

The way I'm reading it, he was not retained. Maybe mutually? I'm not crazy about it. They were last in the B12 in rushing and one of the worst in the country at rushing. A measly 108 ypg - or 34 ypg less than we were this year. And we know how insistent Silverfield is on establishing the run.

I went on to 24/7 sports and looked at recruiting. Take it with a grain of salt. Recruiting is mostly going to be dependent on the head coach and the offensive coordinator, more so than the offensive line coach.

This is the number of top 10 offensive line recruits by year, with their team ranking among recruits for each year.

Year/Top 10/Ranking Among Team Recruits
2022: 0/14,18,25
2021: 3/4,8,14
2020: 2/6,7,12,16,24
2019: 2/7,10,17,21
2018: 2/3,4,16
2017: 0/12,13,18,19,20,21
2016: 1/1,12,20,22,25

So when you look at the positions you recruit for, I think you can break it down into these groups.

- Quarterback
- Skill positions offense
- Offensive line
- Defensive line
- Defense, linebackers/safeties/cornerbacks
- Special teams

Based on that, it seems that they recruited comparatively well at offensive line, and I think we would all agree that it probably isn't super easy to recruit to Iowa State. I would think that in both peer groups, it would be easier to recruit at Memphis.

When you look at how the team performed offensively through most of the last 3-4 years, he did a good job.

I agree with you. It's a pretty rough profession. You can have have several good years in a row as a coach. But one bad year and your nuts are on the block.
02-13-banana OUCH !!!!! That hurts.

Every fan base has perceived haters that the coach can never do wrong. Every fan base also has perceived homers who blame everything but the coach including the administration, cheap fans, color schemes and logo changes.

I mean, that same TCU team beat the B10 champ the week before. And the B10's second best team coulda/shoulda beat UGA the week before. So it's hard to indict the league over the ugly game last night.

If the Big 12 is so bad then ho come the SEC keeps raiding it? This now makes 4 teams they’ve poached and 5 if you include former SWC school Arkansas.
