RE: Jelly. On the ball. In final possessions.
Jelly taking crap shots and then compounding his mistakes by taking more and more even worse shots, and making worse decisions when he starts to spiral is absolutely an issue, and contributed heavily to our poor play recently.
He should’ve cost us the UTEP game, contributed heavily to the loss at FAU, and was freaking abysmal at FIU.
The teams defense is a problem too without a doubt. It’s probably the number one problem. But saying that jelly’s play in this recent stretch hasn’t contributed to losses or isn’t a reason we lost Is asinine. You aren’t right all of the time.
You give great players like jelly some leeway to take bad shots. And I understand that a traditionally bad shot is not really a bad shot, similar to Steph curry. But In these last few games jelly has broken the leash and is running off down the street with no signs of slowing down. He’s torpedoed the team.
He’s forced awful shots the entire 40 minutes in all 3 games that have been problemS. You can say he didn’t shoot in the first half at FIU, which is true, but look when we were able to build up a big lead and dominate - WHEN HE WASNT JACKIN UP DUMB SHOTS

RE: Jelly. On the ball. In final possessions.
My point was Jelly has been in a slump for the past few games outside of UTSA who is a JV basketball team. More turnovers than assists in this games just seemingly forcing it. Hell in the FIU he missed that late game mid range cause he was descrito y trying to draw a foul when no one touched him. He just needs to calm down, figure out that if he’s being doubled someone is open, and I’m glad he no longer leads the nation in scoring cause that almost becomes a hassle more than an honor [/quote]

According to box score a ton of turnovers too. How many did Jelly account for? Just asking. I didn't see the game. Also someone told me that the kid from Huntsville has looked good but I haven't seen you guys mention him. Any opinions on him?

He has been the most calm and collected player on the team lately - sad considering the experience level of this team. Very impressed by him.

When Jelly can't put the team on his shoulders, it mentally bothers him and he loses focus and sometimes forces it. Kennedy is having to remind him that he doesn't have to be "that guy" every night, especially if the defense is keying on him like the last 2 have.

RE: Jelly. On the ball. In final possessions.
Jelly’s shot selection ain’t great at times. He forces it at times. He isn’t taking too many shots. He is taking shots outside the flow of the offense trying to make things happen. And some of *those* wouldn’t be bad shots if they were in context with the flow. A 30 footer isn’t a bad shot for him in the right situation.
Jelly isn’t the only one doing this. There are several others who force things instead of going within the flow.
And his bigger problem than shot selection is not running the offense at all. It led to the decisive turnover in both games in Florida that got Gaines pinned with a turnover that was 50 percent on Jelly.

Jelly shooting isn’t why UAB lost. Jelly hogging the ball or focused on his stats isn’t why UAB lost. Jelly and a bunch of other players not playing good defense or being in the same page with each other or the coaches is why they lost.
I agree with this. He actually played a really solid first half. Things went south because of the whole team.

RE: Jelly. On the ball. In final possessions.
There are not many “bad shots” by Jelly as to what would be a bad shot for most players. He makes many difficult ones. His deep 3s actually often are easier to make than the closer 3s.
A “bad shot” for Jelly is one that isn’t in the flow of the offense whether it is from 5 feet or 35 feet. This puts teammates out of position, creates turnovers, hurts rebounding and sets us up to be at a disadvantage on the fast break.

I wouldn't be surprised if we started the same 5, but have a very quick hook throughout the game when a player doesn't play defense or give maximum effort. I expect more PT for Johnson and, maybe, Toney..
