He does? When did that happen? I must have missed it. He played 26 minutes against Temple, for example. If what you wrote is true, how could their shot spread look like this?

He blocks almost 2 shots in less than 11 minutes per game.

I'm not here to argue with people like you. My point is he's a good shot blocker and affects the game in that way when he's in there.

And he only played 19 minutes against Temple and had 2 blocks. The entire team had 5 blocks, so he had 40% of our blocks in 19 minutes.

He's 44th in the nation in blocks while playing less than 11mins per game.

If I could find blocks per minute he's probably top 5.

Sorry, you're right. It was 19 minutes and I read it wrong from the huge column of data I was referencing. So the entire game he had two blocks. Great. Nice to have two blocks and it certainly helps. He also had 0 rebounds, 0 assists, 0 steals, but he did manage to turn it over and get two fouls. Not very amazing if you ask me, and it looks like Temple scored most all of their points in the paint which really confuses me based on your last post. Look below.

Ok I see you are looking for a stupid argument which I won't participate in. You obviously don't understand a little hyperbole when trying to compliment one of our players. He is one of the best shot blockers in the nation in limited minutes. Argue on pal, I'm out.

Sure, if you can't defend the statements that you made and the facts that were presented, I completely understand. It's not arguing when a person is representing objective facts. You have a good one too.

The announcers for the game tonight laid out some interesting stats.

He's 2nd in the league in blocks but only plays 10MPG.

Blocks 20% of 2 point shots when he's on the floor. So I overrated his impact. He doesn't block half of everything. He ONLY blocks 1/5 of everything.

Per 40mins he blocks 7 shots per game. That would probably be close to an NCAA record if he played 40MPG.

Kao is incredibly athletic, and I'm a fan - definitely exciting to watch. At the end of the day it's about winning basketball games. Objectively, C. Lawson is the better basketball player and does more to help win games, even with a significant height disadvantage compared to Kao.

He might not block as many shots, but he does everything else much better. With the exception of shot blocking, Kao is a liability everywhere else. Even if he lead the NCAA in blocks, that wouldn't be enough for him to be a starter for any decent program, and I promise it won't get him into the NBA. I hate to say it, but he very much appears to be a one-trick pony.

It seems that when he isn't blocking a shot, we are giving up a lot of offensive boards. He sure isn't getting those rebounds himself. He is averaging more blocks than rebounds per game. The odds are also pretty high that at least some of those rebounds are on free throws.

I don't know if I've ever heard of anything like that. I wouldn't think it is possible.

RE: Kao is the Key- Why Isn’t He a Stater?
I was puzzled that Hardaway didn't play Kao much in the second half of the SMU game. In a blowout against a weak team that is not capable of mounting a comeback, put in the reserves to give them some experience and minimize injuries to starters. Granja could have played at least five minutes (instead of two or whatever it was). That was a headscratcher by the Tiger coaching staff.

After the game, Penny said that he wanted to have a big win because the Tigers haven't had an overly large margin of victory this season.

He pulled KD and another starter or two around the 8 minute mark and lead quickly dropped below 20 so he reinserted them. I imagine had the reserves been capable of keeping the lead +20 that he would have given them the final 8 minutes or so.

I like the blocked shots. But the blocked shot is also the most overrated stat in basketball. Did we gain possession after the block? Did we swipe it out of bounds and give them the ball right back? Could we have just grabbed the ball out of the air instead of going for the highlight & slamming the ball to the floor?

If he improves on his rebounding he definitely deserves more playing time. But getting blocked shots alone does not justify starter minutes.

Blocked shots are fun to watch, and if it prevents a basket that's great, but it shouldn't be the only consideration. On at least one occasion last night, I noticed he blocked a shot that he could and should have just grabbed. It appears that he's going to swat at everything by default, but hopefully that will change with Dorsey there to help him.

I suppose that make sense in some ways. But I wanted to see, for example, Jonathan Lawson get some work at the point. I also wanted to see the Tiger offense work on taking the shot clock down to the sub-three-second mark. And I would have like to have seen some zone defense.

It simply seemed (I started watching about four minutes into the second half) that the Memphis coaching staff wasted some strategic opportunities during the final 16 minutes of the game.

Yep---Lee used to block it toward another TIGER player--thus gaining possession ---instead of just blocking it out of bounds and giving the ball right back to the other team
