Kao is the Key- Why Isn’t He a Stater?
It boggles my mind why Penny refuses to play Kao starter minutes. He has an IMMEDIATE impact every single time he’s in the game. Yet, he continues to play C. Lawson more. Can’t wait til these East player graduate so that the bias can be done with. Does anyone else agree? It seems extremely obvious to me.

Kao gets lost out there numerous times during the game. A lot of times he is outta position defensively. I think that is probably the biggest reason he doesn't get the minutes this year.
Sidenote - does he still have his covid year or is this year his absolute last one?

After this game, he has certainly earned the right to play substantial minutes. I think C. Lawson has shown us his ceiling and there's nothing but upside to Kao from what I've seen. I expect we'll be seeing much more of Kao.

I was under the impression that he has another year.

I mean, it isnt like C Lawson is holding teams to 50 pts... this defense thing is a little bit out of whack with reality since teams are scoring on us pretty much at will.
And yes I cant freaking wait for ALo to be gone. That will settle a lot of complaints. I dont mean addition by subtraction, I just mean, ALo gone will ease a lot of tension from fans who are sick of the East crap.

It wasn’t him that got lost when ECU went 7-8 from 3 late in the first half. He wasn’t in the game
And we made the run in the second half when he was in there
Like I asked someone else earlier today
Who do you think is better at the 5 right now?

Nice try. Being better at the 5 isn't the same thing as being the third best finisher on the team.

We know that since you are constantly crapping on him. Yet here he is, 3rd in scoring, 2nd in assists, 1st in steals, 2nd in free throw shooting percentage, shooting 47% from the field, 79% free throws, not shooting a lot of 3's but is shooting 46% his last 11 games, a good defender, etc...

Wouldn't have made a difference if he was in the game.
Don't see many 5s out on the perimeter blocking shots.
His prowess is in the paint.

I agree that C. Lawson’s ceiling is very low compared to Kai’s ceiling. The interior defense is extremely suspect when C. Lawson is playing the 5 and it seems like the opposing teams know this. Sadly, I don’t have any confidence that Penny will get this. He is notorious for riding with his East players over higher ceiling players, ex: Josh Minnot, M. Cisse, Boogie Ellis, Damian Baugh, and the list goes on.

That's why Duren started over C. Lawson and Dandridge last season?

Well, I hope you are able to admit that without East, Memphis likely would have gone south today.

Duren was a unique talent and a Lottery pick. No coach in the nation would have left him off the floor , including Penny.

Who knows why he makes the decisions that he does? Nobody here spends as much time with the team as the head coach. We can all speculate, but Penny has shown that he absolutely will play others over the "East" guys.

Lomax was a big part of the second half come back. He had 7 steals, 6 assist and only 2 to's.

He apparently still doesn't fully trust him yet but he did say on the post game last game that he was growing or getting better.

He is also a big part of us getting blitzed from 3 each game (this game especially). He doesn't close out on shooters because he would rather go for steals by cheating to the paint.
