Beard is a great coach but you cant employ that guy right now. Maybe after a couple years. I will be curious to see who Texas hires.

We should hire Beard as soon as this season is over. Liberty did great by hiring Freeze and FAU hiring Kiffin. We have to take chances to make a splash.

Zero chance this university is going to hire a drunk coach accused of hitting a woman.

So we draw the line at hitting a woman?

I believe he may be referring to our willingness to have a coach with a drinking issue in the past?

Sweet, then we can hire Gregg Marshall since he only hit a player? *jokes*

TBH, I am still butt hurt that if JJ had been fired 2 years ago, when he should have been, we could have hired Pat Kelsey who now has CofC in the top 25 and is only making $600k.

Sorry, I still believe that a University has a duty of care to its student athletes. Im not supporting the University if they sell there soul to someone like Beard or Freeze.
P.S.- we are not gonna hire Beard

That would have been good. But, there is a chance we could have hired a different up and comer that flopped. Im not aware of any link between Kelsey and ODU. He did UMASS dirty though.

You are right, they might have hired someone else, but that would have been dumb. Kelsey was and is a clear up and comer.

Just saying that he would have to choose ODU as well. We dont just get to pick who we want.

The way things have been lately, it's pretty good odds that if the school did a decent job in their search, they could come up with a better coach for ODU that would deliver better results.
The practice facility was supposedly going to be a big recruiting tool. Can't say that I have seen any noticeable recruiting results from that thus far. An argument could be made that previous coaches that had lesser facilities to work with brought in better recruits at ODU.

If it came down to money, we could afford to pay more than COC is. But that's water under the bridge. Problem is, this job is probably much less attractive now than it was when Jeff took it over. 10 years of mediocrity hasn't helped our reputation and fan base at all.

I think people believe the job is more appealing than it actually is. It was not attractive 10 years ago due to the mess we were in.

Brion Dunlap is 11-1 at Claflin University - Division 2. Might be an option down the road.

We were in a mess, but still had a great reputation as were only two years removed from a very nice run of awesomeness and a brand new practice facility.

One year of a coach going off the rails on a personal level didn't place ODU in a mess as far as them firing him and conducting a coaching search goes. Basketball wise, ODU was in good standing among mid-major schools at that time, certainly much more so than they are today.

We were in an APR mess at the time of his departure, a risky position for a coach to come in and reshape the roster.
