On Monday, it was revealed that Rep. Mike Rogers of Alabama is planning on stepping down from the Steering and Policy Committees of the United States House of Representatives.
According to Politico, Rogers said the move would likely happen later this week and confirmed the plan on Monday morning, noting that his departure from the committee is not finalized and wasn’t encouraged by fellow colleagues.
I met Mike Rogers briefly about a year ago. My FIL actually had a conversation with him.. My FIL said he's a politician. No redeeming factors about him to be found.
Worst toupee in Congress.
Agree. That dude is my Congressman, but we never have anybody good running who can get enough votes to replace him. Once somebody is in office, most people tend to vote for the incumbent, probably b/c they don't really follow politics, and just recognize the name.
I've never seen him go off on anybody like he did on Gaetz, but that may be b/c C-Span usually is limited to a fixed position facing the Speaker's podium.
Matt Gaetz is a pretty big dude. Notice he didn't get really excited about it.

Rules package has passed. This alone made it all worthwhile.

Two Rs had announced earlier that they would oppose it. But the other 220 stuck together. Amazing, lol.
No Dems voted for it. Shocker.

I think that’s why they didn’t vote on it Friday.

Not sure.
But at any rate, the 72-hour rule was pledged for legislation and the House Rules are not legislation.

The rules were what they were hashing out during the Speaker battle.

The rules package is not a bill. And you can literally read the new rules package in about 3 minutes.

I don't know why all the dems show up to proceedings. They only really need one person there.

Apparently someone isn't happy that a bill with over 1000 pages can't be dropped at 10 pm on Monday night and a vote happen at 8 am Tuesday... Or the fact that each bill is a single bill you can't shove 15 things in and if it doesn't pass you pick out the one thing that should've been voted on and plastered to paint your opponent as a bad party.
For example:
$200 Billion Military Relief Package
Only $4 million goes to Military Relief, the rest is pork and pet projects shoved in.. It fails...
The story isn't that over $199 billion was saved but someone is depriving the military relief in this $200 billion bill. Worded in a way that makes it seems like most of the money was for relief.
All the above is not a true bill but how it's been working for years.
If the bill is named Military Relief that's all that is in the bill.

I think that is standard operating procedure though. The minority party typically opposes bills in unison like this where they have had no say in anything.

Isn't this what has been going on the last 4 years? Except when regarding Ukraine funding.

So there is an exception? Who made it? Exactly. The republicans always, just like this rules package, have someone who votes with the democrats. The other happens about as often as the turn of the century.
