Weird game. Malique was taking some really bad tough shots but still had 8 assists. Sin made right plays but wasnt as aggressive offensively as normally. Thomas is essentially a one trick pony (3 pt shot at top of key). Davis, Sullinger and Peyton stepped up. this was a game we would have lost in previous years so im not disappointed. MAC is a grind just win...

Would like to get a little more out of Hornbeak and didnt even see Akeem or Delrico.

Jacobs shot selection was terrible. forcing shots and not in flow of game, He is at his best when he allows game to come to him and not force things. He should not be leading the team in shots. As far as Carry, anytime you get early foul trouble it normally disrupts your flow as a player. He made some plays in 2nd half, but he will have to be better for Kent to go where they think they can.

Why are we starting MAC play so soon? In the past, the conference started the weekend students were back in class. Toledo's going to be one of our biggest games and the place will look just as hollow.

Agree with this. In my opinion he was trying to do too much with Carry out. I really feel those two are at their best when they have each other.

The MAC has bounced around between 16 and 18 games over the years. But if memory serves me well, there were always games played before Spring Semester started. This year classed resume the 17th, so one home game would be played during break even with a 16 game schedule.

And the past few years it has been 20. MAC should stay at 20 or got all in on 22.
would relieve some of the scheduling nightmare for mid majors.

Since I started following Kent State basketball it has been as few as 10 (there were many fewer teams in the conference) and as many as 20 (it was 20 just one season, last year). I agree. If they are going to have as many as 18 or 20, they should just go ahead and go to a double round-robin with 22 games. I think most fans would rather see every MAC team come to the MACC than games with non-DI programs or little-known programs like Chicago State or South Dakota State.

Jacobs and Carry get "Villain" treatment from the refs even at home. I'm sure they rubbed a lot of people the wrong way last year with their antics... But it doesn't make it right. Good luck finding another defending league MVP that gets in immediate foul trouble on little touch fouls at home like that. Sure wouldn't happen to Gonzaga. Then all game Carry got no calls on his drives. There as one really egregious one in the second half. Tough to square that away when he's also getting tagged with touch fouls on the other end. And again... He's the star... Normally not what you see...

As for Jacobs a really odd thing happened early in the first half. There was a jump ball going into a timeout and one ref pointed WMU's way. Jacobs went up to him and pointed the other way (Jacobs was correct). The ref angrily waived him off and when he said something else the ref started red-faced yelling at him. Jacobs looked pretty bewildered and the coaches grabbed him and pulled him into the huddle. Coming out of the timeout he went up to the ref and looked to say something calmly. Sure I don't know what he said but his demeanor looked like he was trying to explain. The ref immediately angrily waived him off, ran over to the bench and red-face yelled "Rob that's a warning on #2". It was freaking weird and it was early in the game before there was really any tension. The only explanation I can come up with is the ref (who I've seen plenty of times before) has a pre-existing issue with Jacobs. Either that or he takes his "authority" wayyy too seriously. Again I've seen this ref many times and don't remember seeing him react to a player like that before.

This explains the box score for Carry/Jacobs a little bit .... however there are waaaay too many MAC games ahead vs. far better teams for one of these guys to have issues w/the refs, much less both of them.

Need to get a handle on it, for sure. Also need to get that interior defense in order. Hornbeack needs to be much more assertive ...

I thought our post defense was hideous. Absolutely terrible. We do a nice job of challenging shots when guys come down the lane, but their post guys went around ours like we were standing in cement. I was also very disappointed in Payton (then I saw a video where he was player of the game - or awarded some belt) (not sure what it's for). I trust Rob 100% but odd to me he played so little in non-conference games and then got a ton of minutes in this one.

I just don't think a rotation overhaul is necessary for an 11-3 team that is clearly among the best in the conference.

Payton is averaging 10.8 minutes per game, only 1.1 more than Rollins. Just before the season started Senderoff mentioned him as one of the players who was looking really good. So, the question is why did he not play more prior to WMU? Was he nursing a nagging injury or illness? Did he regress in practice then just recently look good again? We just never get much of that kind of information.

He has played more the last 4 games, but before that he was about a 4-8 min per game guy.

Thanks. I hadn't really noticed that his minutes had been increasing that 3 games before WMU. He did have 8 rebounds in the 20 minutes he played Tuesday.

Toledo is up by 19 over WMU at the half. Maybe WMU will came back against them, too, but I doubt it. It will be interesting to see how Akron fares at Ball State later tonight.

Toledo wasn’t losing two games in a row at home. I figured they’d be more locked in tonight.
