Cut the 23 point deficit down a bit, but still trail Tennessee State by 19 at the half. This team still needs to learn how to win on the road. Likely to be a very up and down year until we learn how to do that.

Same song, different verse. We cannot compete at any D1 level on a consistent basis with DW at the helm. Another blowout loss that was never in doubt. We never had a chance. I am counting down the games until he is gone and maybe the program can get a much needed shot in the arm.

RE: I guess the OVC won't be a cakewalk
Just saw another poll that picked Tennessee State 2nd (Morehead State 1st) and Tennessee-Martin 3rd. Tenn State is probably not a road game I would have expected to win. Of course, like you I didn't like to see a blow-out. But, TN-Martin beat Morehead today, and Morehead beat Tennessee State Thursday, so I think we are sitting a decent spot right now.

Ut Martin is ranked no. 14 in ncaa scoring. We held them to 10 below their average and won. Tsu is ranked 42nd in the ncaa. Who scouted this team and who game planned this team?

They shot 56% from 3 (14/25) so either it was just "one of those nights" for them where you just have to tip your hat or our 3-point defense sucks. I guess how you view it will be determined by what you think of our coaching staff. They go a "decent" 8/25 and it's a reasonably competitive game.

I am always surprised how teams jum out on us and we never offer any real pushback and end up trailing the whole game. I have quit watching a few this year because you get tired of the same deal.

When a team is down by over 30 late in the game before the benchwarmers came in, there is nothing that a few extra missed shots would do to make the game “reasonably competitive”! All home teams in the league won today, even the two that KenPom considers the weakest- Eastern Illinois and Lindenwood.

Basketball is just a crazy game. We pretty much blew out UT-Martin (until their late 16-0 run) and then get blown out by Tenn State. ASU goes and gets what looks like a really good road win at ODU and tonight gets beaten bad by ULM (picked last) at home. Just never know what's going to happen from night to night.

CW makes me long for the halcyon days of Steve Shields’ offense.

At least with Shields we might win 14 to 17. That isn't going to happen with the current leadership. Sad state of affairs for sure.

It was a blow-out and that's really all that matters. But 6 less made 3 pointers (-18) points and it is a different game. Not sure if I learned anything new this week other than our team will likely be up and down this season. Also that there is likely to be no dominant team in the OVC, since after 2 games there is only one undefeated team (Eastern Illiinois) and they were picked to finish last by Blue Ribbon magazine.

Boy, to say you are grasping at straws is an understatement! So you assume that the team that literally beat the crap out of the Trojans would not get any of the rebounds of those assumed missed three point attempts and would not subsequently score a two. Might as well just say we would have been more competitive if they had only been allowed to have four players on the court vs our five! That would have probably made a different game too!

And I also disagree that at this point there doesn’t appear to be one dominant team. SIUE might be considerably better than the rest of the league. They are the only team ranked higher than 200 in the league. And four league teams are ranked in the bottom 50 of all of Division I. Little Rock is one of those bottom four.

I doubt anyone will dominate the OVC and believe the league is wide open. I think we'll be competitive and I'm still hoping for a top 4 finish. Sure didn't look like a top 4 team against Tenn State, but we sure did against UT-Martin. I am looking forward to a fun and interesting season to see where we fit in this new league.

SIU-E may be a lot better than I realized. They are 113 in the NET right now, and were in the top 100 last week. They are ranked much higher than anyone else in the league, but conference play will determine how good they really are.
