Relatability & Reputation is everything
Been paying attention to what Coach Prime is doing with Colorado since he got hired a couple weeks ago. His staff is cleaning up in the transfer portal right now. It’s crazy to see what is happening for a program that went 1-11 last season.

We need to get with the times. We can complain about being poached but that’s the new game until the NCAA reins in all the tampering. Everyone is dealing with the same things.

Hope Hammock and the NIU Athletics marketing department is paying close attention to what is drawing this new generation in. Hammock is young enough to relate with the same player’s that Deion is pulling but we need to get to winning. ASAP.

There’s only one Deon what he can do others cannot. He also told the people at Colorado big time players with come but they will except cash! Coach Hammock and NIU do not have cash to give out or big cash opportunities here.

What Deion is good at is marketing, not handing out money. Jackson State had less resources than NIU and out-recruited us. Marketing departments across the country should be taking notes. NIU has been notoriously bad at marketing for a long time and it shows in how they recruit.

Bad at marketing? Sounds like a new AD is in order.

Deion is a unique situation but maybe not for much longer. There’s only so many Saban’s out there but you can get a pseudo-celebrity coach like Deion just to attract players. I doubt Sanders is a great coach but he is a great persona. And it’s persona’s that seem to be what society cares about today. You could probably make coaches out of guys like Richard Sherman or Eli Manning and they’d get a top 10 recruiting class. Just need to find great coordinators.

Bad at marketing? Sounds like a new AD is in order.

Better marketing requires a will and a way, but most of all something to market.

-- Football: The past four years have included one with new HC and staff, one Covid year, one we-got-lucky-breaks year and then a 2022 injury-prone and coaching disaster. That's four years on top of a bad economy, lower enrollment, internal focus on social engineering, staff departures (D. Boughton just a couple months ago, e.g.), declining funding, the zig-zags of NIL and the portal, the overall blah of the MAC, etc.

-- MBB: After 10 years of a giant sucking sound, now we have 1 1/2 years of maybe-next-year hopes.

-- WBB: Boosted by a trio of senior talent and a bunch of transfers, the program appears to be trying to make this year "the big one" before somebody's contract runs through its last year (June 2024).

-- VBall: Now has a new coach, a regional/local with some solid credentials. We'll see.

-- Did MSoc shoot its wad and is now an also-ran (MVC soccer is no slouch league)? Is baseball going to be worthy of all that $ being spent (and why should anyone care)?

And finally ... Has anyone really assessed the interest in NIU athletics? Is STF still having (w..) dreams about those 160,000 Chicago-area alumni (remember SeatGeek)? Has the promoted assistant finally figured out how to make concession food and water appear at Huskie Stadium? Has whoever posts the official website gotten a watch and calender?

And will the grayhairs and other diehards last/live long enough to prop it up?

RE: Relatability & Reputation is everything
Will only be a matter of time before rappers , pop and country music stars become head coaches. Or a guy like LeBron.

Outside of that, my only other suggestion is to convince Sebastian Maniscalco to start paying 20 guys a million a year and give them a comedy internship.

Hammock, Frazier aren’t going to “ get with the times.” 3 years ago Hammock was with the times relating abd recruiting. But NIL and no transfer rules changed it. 40% of Alabama signees from last 3 classes. have transferred . Nick needs to get with it. As does Jimbo needs to have more #1 classes and NIL money, if that’s possible.

And while Hammock is no Deion , realize Deion last played before these kids were born. He’s closer to their grandparents generation.

Eli AND Peyton co-head coaches. Can we start a “ come coach us fund?”

Honestly, I could see a school doing celebrity coaching week to week kind of like Louisville and Purdue are in bowls.

When do USC and UCLA leave? That’s when they will fight for the top spot.

He needs to have sustained classes - I like Deion a lot - but this first class isn’t works beating. Let’s see class 2, which I expect to be very good, and 3.

Prime is an excellent recruiter. He's bringing in an interesting class, but so is the rest of the PAC. Those other coaches can coach too.

Prime with all his recruits was unable to win against an FCS team without all of the big names in the Celebration Bowl.

With that being said, he can no doubt develop. But I think he will have hit some bumps along the way. Colorado is a really hard place to win.

Yeah...

I'm not sure why Hammock and Frazier refuse to take unsolicited offers from 5 and 4 star players. Seems like if you want to get better, you would be open to getting those offers. But those two don't seem to care.

I don’t believe Colorado is a really hard place to win at! They already have many things in place to win. Colorado has been a national power before they can do it again

Look at their success since 2005. The Boise State coach Dan Hawkins couldn't win there. Nor did anyone else after him. It's a tough place to win at.

In two years, a third of the league could be gone, making it a little easier.
