Don't count Trump out
https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/...-pollsters
This just seems more realistic to me than that last poll.
"...John and Jim McLaughlin, who run McLaughlin & Associates, recently released their poll that shows the former president ahead of DeSantis 48%-23%, just as popular as he was on Election Day last month, and leading Biden 48%-45%....
John McLaughlin added to Secrets, “The continued attacks on Trump by President Biden and liberals in Congress galvanize Trump’s conservative base. The bottom line — Trump is still the Republican to beat, and actual votes for delegates are over a year away.”
In their latest survey, besides showing Trump remaining the one to beat, they found Trump’s support had popped a point since Election Day last month, while they have the support for DeSantis down nationally by 4 points.
Nobody else comes close. Former Vice President Mike Pence is still stuck in the single digits, at 5%, and he is third in the new survey."

RE: Don't count Trump out
It's less about who Republicans want so much as who can beat whoever the Dem is. A lot of Dems didn't & don't like Biden but thought he had the best (only?) chance of beating Trump out of their lineup. Whoever's polling the best in the 'swing' states, that's who you want in the primary.

RE: Don't count Trump out
I'm not gonna question their poll accuraxy because I don't know their methodology. It did mention they were a pro-Trump group tho.
Regardless, many of the Republicans I know that voted for Trump twice, including myself, have Trump fatigue and are very hopeful for a DeSantis Presidency. I'd wager the support for DeSantis is much greater than that poll shows.

RE: Don't count Trump out
The only group that will benefit by Trump's involvement in 2024 is the Democrats. Trump is the gift that keeps on giving for them. If Trump is looking to win the Republican nomination then we'll be treated with another 4 years of the ghost of Joe Biden and a Democratic House and Senate. However, if DeSantis can successfully unseat Trump and restore some sanity to the Republican Party, the Democrats won't have anything left to attack and will instead spend the entire election season answering questions about the economy, immigration, left-wing nut jobs, etc etc etc. Insurrection? What insurrection? We nominated a Harvard/Yale Grad Navy Vet who won his last election in a swing state by 20 points.

And hopefully the Biden/Harris team will be on the ticket for the Dems.

Lol. If you think the press is going to spend election season asking Biden tough questions then you haven’t been paying attention to politics for at least two decades. The press long ago picked sides and will spend election season painting DeSantis as the worst Nazi loving racist puppy killer this side of Adolf Hitler.

Really. I thought his post was funny too. Romney, McCain, W., HW, Reagan all got the same treatment. Don't remember too much of it for Dole, but maybe I just don't remember.

I love Trump. Trump was the best president since Reagan.
However...
The swamp will NEVER let him get in there again. NEVER. He's the only president that's not able to be bought. He's the only one that's stood up to the swamp.
They'll blow the place up first.

This.
They’ve already started. Remember what an awful guy he was for even running while his wife was sick?
He’s also going to ban abortions for any reason in the whole wide world. He hates teachers and is going to end social security, Medicare and start a nuclear war…
Soooooooo predictable.

yeppers ... I think we're about the same age ... the question my crew understood long ago; can we make it to 'the finish line' with sustenance in reserve for those we leave in waste ... it's unfortunate it started a decade too early...
