Right. The Mountain and Pacific Time Zones haven’t seen an FCS to FBS transition since 1996. If they go the FCS route, there are decent options:

Montana
Montana St
Idaho
Sacramento St
UC Davis

Which and how many among Cal, Oregon, Stanford and Washington have to leave for the B1G for the preference to shift to the Big XII?

Yes. This is the most likely scenario. But it depends on how many members and which members MW “could?” lose to PAC and/or Big12.

Say MW loses just 2 - say San Diego and (UNLV or Fresno or Boise) - then “aggressive” might mean new MW commish and our current TV partners, Fox and CBS, looking to build western inventory PLUS some good east-of-the-Rockies football teams to compete better with AAC and ESPN at the higher G5 level….but that all depends if 1). The remaining MW presidents want to expand that far, and 2). If Fox/CBS put up enough dough, and enough annual tv dough to account for pie splitting and still compete with AAC’s annual dough per member. And SBC teams seem like the strongest and most doable if that’s the case.

…Because! As it stands starting next season, AAC, MW and SBC are very neck and neck football power-wise. However, AAC will most likely rise to the top again with their more lucrative - at least for G5 - per member annual tv revenue….so mw/SBC might be a good marriage if Fox/CBS put down the money for it.

I might also look at Weber State and Northern Arizona along with NDSU and South Dakota State. I could look at Utah Tech, Texas State, Abilene Christian and Tarleton State as well.

Too many are ignoring the tactics of Fox Sports.

1) Why do you think Fox is staying out of Pac10 tv contract?

2) and why do you think Fox is not part of Big12 pro rata?

3) so where is Fox getting its western time zone content? Are they not going to have it anymore?

Maybe PAC has been somewhat overvalued their last couple tv contracts and MW somewhat undervalued. Not saying MW = PAC. But MW should have a net positive and PAC a net negative but still remain quite a bit ahead of mw on next tv contracts for each conference.

Wonder if it’s possible to do some kind of joint contract between PAC, MW, ESPN, Fox, CBS and Amazon??? Remain totally separate conferences but have a few more games scheduled each year between the two conferences and a joint tv contract. Just let it run through the next 6 years just to see if it would work well.

Maybe excitement for western collegiate sports would be rekindled with a PAC-MW partnership. Hell, I’d add wcc, big sky and big west into this partnership. Maybe Google/YoutubeTV buys Pac12 Networks and uses the 7 channels for 2nd/3rd tier football and men’s basketball for these 5 western conferences as well as oly sports content for these conferences.
