Are you aware at all that THE SCHOOL...you know the University of Memphis, just said that they could raise $200 - $250 million. Does the clown show need a link to that? Let me know.
Uh, sure, that will pay for an OCS. The fact is that it wouldn't cover the structure, let alone the land acquisition. How much time do you think it would all take? There would be so many disparate property owners involved, and it isn't a case of eminent domain where they could just take the land at will. It would drag on for years, even decades.
There is room behind the Library, stretching to alumni field, behind the field house. It would not require acquiring land.
Where do the people park? The land has to come from somewhere and there is zero available land around the school that's just sitting fallow.
Quote:The study then concluded there were several viable locations for an on-campus stadium, and substantial support for building it. But there was one key stumbling block all of the sites had to overcome once the preliminary plans were drawn up.
There wasn’t enough parking on or near campus for the biggest games of the football season.
The Heery Report pointed to 9k spots oncampus, more than the 7k available at the fairgrounds.

So park a stone's throw from the Liberty Bowl to get shuttled to the campus? Maybe some people would be into that.

So the answer (predictably) from clown show...is no.
I already shared a link that was the response from the President of the University of Memphis. You have yet to share anything other than triggered diatribes. Put up or shut up comes to mind.
The clown show continues.

Fairgrounds to Liberty Bowl
But the Liberty Bowl is practically on campus.
It is very close, roughly two miles, but then you throw in a shuttle bus from a parking lot next to an existing stadium to get shuttled to the campus where one would then have to walk to the OCS seems a bit obtuse.
Two miles is a stone's throw? Seems like a clown argument if you ask me (and everyone else).
Reading comprehension not very strong, eh?

I read where you said that 2 miles is very close.

The $400 million figure is rationalization for not pursing an OCS. The design firm who is spearheading the Liberty Park project threw the 400 million figure out there & the university ran with it… nevermind the firm has a vested interest in the Liberty Bowl redesign.
There is space available. The same state who is floating the 680 million could have provided 1/4th that amount to help construct an OCS. We are once again just another pawn in another municipal boondoggle which does nothing to help position the university for Big 12 membership or shore up much needed improvements to student life or alumni participation/giving.
If the university cares about upgrading conferences or getting more butts in the seats, they need to invest in winning games. We could have facilities that exceed the NFL, smack dab in the spot where Herff Engineering currently sits, and we'll never get an invite if we're losing games and playing "participation trophy" bowls.
We’ve been winning at the best clip in program history. We’ve slipped a little under Silverfield, but we’re still far from a losing program. The problem is our fanbase is fickle & our facilities substandard. This school has never invested in football & they are passing that responsibility onto the city/state… which only highlights their lack of commitment.

Hopefully the team can be turned around and begin winning consistently. I believe that will be the best way to solve many of the challenges presented. At this stage, OCS versus renovations is apparently a moot point, and renovations it will be.

The report said there were more spots on campus than at the Liberty Bowl. I’m not following your point…

while remaining mired the AAC…
the cost of playing in dated, municipally owned facilities.

I'll believe when I see funding approved......... and then I'll be really pissed off, knowing we could have received the funding directly to build an OCS.

We could start by hiring a coach who can win games. Contributing to NIL initiatives should help too as a team needs players. Both are significantly more cost effective than anything stadium related.
I'm convinced we will never see a conference upgrade if we aren't relevant on the national stage, making prestigious bowl games, and presenting a strong threat to the conference we're currently in. All of this will help attract broader television viewership, making us more attractive to a P5 conference. After all, it is a business in the entertainment industry.
