RE: Bearcats v. Detroit Mercy Gamethread
Another fun game to go to.
I had absolutely no idea about Davis for Detroit Mercy. He just passed Oscar in the all time scoring books. That's like halfway through his 5th year, of course, and he has a 3 point line, but still, pretty cool. DDJ frustrated him all game tho. It got chippy between them a few times. I gather DeJulius being from Detroit was some extra motivation?
Lakhin had I think 6 rebounds before the first TV timeout. He could have gone for 20 and 20 if he'd really tried. Who was the last Bearcat to get 20 boards in a game? My buddy guessed Robert Miller. Did Fortson do it? Anyway, it's ridiculous how good Lakhin has been. I don't think he had a foul tonight either.
What else? I don't know, everyone else kinda played fine? Well, other than the shooting, which was horrendous. A bunch were on good looks though. Ody continued his strong play. He's so much more assertive. Ezikpe with 0 minutes, Hensley with not too many more, and Reed got maybe 5? Is the rotation tightening to the starters plus Skillings and Ody, mainly?

I think Tre Scott did it against ECU his last year here unless I'm completely off base. He had some crazy rebounding nights.

It was actually against UCF that year, went for 22 and 21 in a loss.

Maybe these guys are being coached up after all. We should know more in 3 weeks.

True. We were at that conference opener about a year ago against Tulane and it was a rude awakening for what turned out to be a very disappointing conference season.
I really feel this team is more talented and better prepared to be competitive in most all conference games starting next month.

Not gonna lie, I am pretty disappointed Hensley and Reed only combined for 10 minutes last night. I hope there was a good reason for that. The development of the young guys is really the only thing worth following this season.
I hope Wes' plan isn't to ride Davenport and Dejulius to another 4/5th place finish and a CBI invite.

It's way too early for Wes to bail on the season. With the way Lahkin has developed and the recent quality minutes they are getting from Ody this team should be a top 4 team in the conference. It's a longshot after the missed opportunity against Xavier, but if you get really fortunate in close games and can finish 2nd in the conference the tournament is still in play.
Wes should do whatever gives them the best chance to win.

The Bearcat defense the last 2 games has been a huge step in the right direction. Jumped from sub 100 kenpom to 81 kenpom in adj defense. Detroit is actually a very good offensive team.
Also encouraging, UC shot like complete trash and managed to score 1.07 PPP last night.

Why are game highlights no longer posted to youtube or twitter? Winter break? It's been more than a few games in a row now.

That second bit is especially crazy considering they only shot 4 FTs in the game.

Here's how I see the AAC slate:
Games we should be favorites to win (8)
East Carolina (home)
SMU (away)
USF (away)
Tulsa (home)
South Florida (home)
East Carolina (away)
Temple (home)
SMU (home)
Games we should be favorites to lose (4)
Houston (home)
Houston (away)
UCF (away)
Memphis (away)
Games that will determine the trajectory of our season (6)
Tulane (home)
Temple (away)
Wichita State (away)
Memphis (home)
UCF (home)
Tulane (away)
8-10 worst case scenario (barring an all-out collapse) and 14-4 best case scenario.

Considering the X game became what I call a 50/50 chance for a favorable outcome in the closing minute, I suspect that victory would have looked pretty good right now statistically.
The good news is, with that kind of effort, this UC team can find a few quality wins down the stretch. It might not be enough for a postseason, but it will be substantial progress after last season. Add that to the players already committed for next season and it all starts to come together.

Another? UC finished 8th in the AAC last year. 4th would be an improvement.

Play to win the games. I’ve been impressed with this teams growth over the course of the season so far. Keep it up! One game Hensley and Reed got lower minutes than usual. I’d guess matchups were key.
