PS - I hate the portal and everything associated to it, but it’s the new reality now.

I totally agree ! - Coach LT’s team needs to compete for MAC title 2nd year at the latest. Portal should make this easily possible.
With all the money being spent on administration staff including GM, NiL management firm etc, there should also be some ringers hired to coach.

MAC WEST (2-3):

- @EMU (30%)

- @Toledo (25%)

MAC EAST (1-2/2-1): Depends who we play. We'll have 2 at home, 1 on the road though.

Essentially, IMO, we should expect to go 4-8 or 5-7 due to it being his first year.

No.

7 wins is a must. Taylor kept half of the staff. This is NOT a rebuild. We have a QB (Bourget) and some talented receivers. I don't want to hear any excuses.

You are smoking crack. Damn near the entire DL went portal. Lost some solid defensive backfield pieces to draft… and Selig is gone. Not to mention the top WR and RB.

This is a rebuild…. Sorry.

RE: 2023 Season Expectations
In this new world 1/2 our league will be gutted each year. Anyone finishing below .500 in the MAC quite frankly is doing a poor job. We have the resources to be top 3-4 in the MAC every year. Anything less is underachieving. That’s the reality of this era now.

RE: 2023 Season Expectations
Suffice to say my expectations of Taylor Year 1 vs Lester Year 1 are dramatically different.

13-1 and Cotton Bowl appearance turned into 6-6 in Lester's first year. 5-7 and no bowl this year is supposed to be 7 or 8 wins Taylor Year 1?

What?

I think we do better than expected but still come up short on a bowl. Just too many pieces to replace. So many young guys were on the field this season…. So hope is we build them up.

I like the fact we are starting with Bourget and building around him. Need to find our next big WR and new starting RB…. Lots in the pipe.

I don't think 7 is a must, but we can't settle for some 2-10 year 0 BS. This team lost a ton of players but there is a lot of talent there still. We should compete for the MAC west in year 2 minimum, win it within 4 years or we should be looking for a new coach.

RE: 2023 Season Expectations
My expectation for WMU football is to finish about 3rd in the division, win between 5-7 games, lose games that are essential for winning the division, lose to either CMU or EMU for several consecutive years and lose a bowl game most years. This seems to hold over time no matter who the coach is.

But the MAC won two Bowl games yesterday against pretty good G5 teams

RE: 2023 Season Expectations
I think many are discounting the power of the portal. Ohio was the second worst MAC team in '21. They used the portal well and ended up at Ford Field this year. EMU rebuilt their OL via the portal and had a good season capped by their bowl win. The P5s will decide who is worth nabbing off the portal in short order. Taylor will have some portal guys signed the next few weeks that should contribute immediately

I don’t think anyone’s opinion was changed about the MAC after yesterday, nor was reality.

Yikes. Apparently it’s all just a waste of time to be a fan of WMU.

The MAC is not a bad conference. It goes up and goes down. The new portal and NLI landscape make it more difficult but the good teams take this head on. Apparently Dan B is being proactive….

But by all means continue to just hate all things and spew your pessimism all over this board.

RE: 2023 Season Expectations
A little dramatic aren’t we??

The MAC has an incredibly long history of being an also-ran league in football. The top team annually in the MAC is rarely a top 40 ball club in the country, let alone top 25. When the playoffs expand and the bowls die off, we’ll get that lesson very clearly.

RE: 2023 Season Expectations
We've been pretty fortunate with new head coaches coming in and finding quick success. Darnell (8-3) and Cubit (7-4) brought big rebounds in their Year 1s. Molde (9-3) and Fleck (8-4) in their Year 2s. Hopefully that trend continues.

Only because that's what we wore when I played.

Doo had to fight equipment manager for years to get gold helmets. Finally did his last season only after CMoo changed from white to maroon.

They were-are too plain and white is not a school color.
