RE: Laughable week 7 college basketball
This week seems like it’s always tough in the season because many/most schools are between sessions and generally on break. Those “left behind” to travel and compete, I’m sure this is a very awkward time to play ball. I’m not surprised some of these results occur. It’s almost like a repeat of that first week or so when some of these teams are still working on stuff.
To the NET, it doesn’t appear to care at all when such losses occur. But, even if it did, when you’re nearing the halfway point, it would still stick out, for sure.
I’m honestly stunned by the Lafayette beatdown on La Salle. That’s just awful. And, maybe it means Dunphy’s got nothing left. I didn’t expect him to make the tournament (though I thought maybe the NIT could be achievable), but, this should have been a win.

Northeastern 73
Davidson 70
Davidson was a 9.5-point home favorite. The CAA has owned the A10 this year.
Lafayette 90
La Salle 65
La Salle the 8.5-point home favorite. Lafayette now 2-11.
SIUE 69
Saint Louis 67
SLU the 16-point favorite.
The A10 troubles are worsening. Hard to fathom.
The league is really bad this year. Some could have been expected with things like McKillop retiring and Bona losing all of their players to the transfer portal. Dayton got destroyed by injuries, and VCU is under performing like crazy. SLU was doing alright for a bit, but decided to join the club.
It's weird not being one of the teams failing to meet expectations this year. How odd that we're still in the same class as Fordham and Duquesne though for conference positioning.
I once worked with a man who is a Fordham grad. To see the Rams (11-1 but a woeful schedule) and Duquesne doing well ... beautiful. The league is likely better than we realize — but there are some concerns. SLU has played a very tough slate.
Good luck to your UMass club.
SLU has made it hard for themselves now to make the tourney at large. With how down the A10 is right now- really tough to see any at large teams there at all.
We've all resigned ourselves to just having the auto-bid this year. Unless something stupid happens like SLU winning out in conference play and then losing the championship game in a tight match against a team that only lost a single game in conference play (specifically to SLU), we're toast as a conference.
But watch whatever team that gets in make the sweet 16 somehow. It only makes sense.

Since schmolik is slacking on Big Ten news and this can’t be mentioned enough: Iowa lost a game to a team with the largest Vegas spread in forever. Hilarious stuff, keep it up Big Ten!
We can add that beautiful Illinois performance last night to your list.

Iona with a big loss yesterday to SMU in 1st round of Diamond Head Classic. Really bad one given now they're in consolation bracket with Seattle, GW, and Pepperdine- so absolutely no meaningful wins there at all.
It's MAAC title or bust for Rick Pitino.

Iowa's a western team so I don't count them as a real Big Ten team, them and Nebraska.
Schmuck has obviously never been to Iowa City, IA. Utterly ridiculous statement.
