I know this sounds crazy, but the kid remids me alot of a unselfish Emoni Bates, JLaw he actually looks for his teammates.

I see that. Not crazy at all.

I agree. They resemble each other physically, so it's easy that a comparison comes up in the first place. Then when you watch JL play you can see pieces of Bates' game.

J Lawson looks like he is on his way to be a 4 year starter for Memphis..

I don't think it's crazy, but I don't view it the same. Emoni Bates plays faster and has a more dynamic offensive game. His style is most like Kevin Durant to me. Even his FT shooting form reminds me of KD. JL is looking more like a set shooter. About the only similarity I see is body type and hairstyle.

yeah J. Lawsons dribbling is rough at best, but he does pass really well and we definitely need a spot up shooter.

If he and Chandler have done nothing else they helped "erase the stain" left by their brothers. Whether or not that stain was even real is irrelevant to most people here. If either of them ever rises to the level of talent that their older brothers possessed they will have good careers here. Jonathan's ceiling looks to be higher than Chandlers IMO. If and when he develops some ball handling skills he'll be a major contributor IMO.

He looks like a kid who grew too fast and lost some coordination and just needs a little time and training for his skillset to catch up with his growth spurts. You can tell it is all there, he just needs some time to work to put it all together. I can definitely seeing him being a stud on the team by his junior (playing) year.

RE: Jonathan Lawson
I agree about Johnathon's ceiling vs Chandler.

And I can see that about his coordination. Right now he moves like Kyle Anderson to me.

That's a good point about his dribbling and I can see that contributing to his slower play to keep from losing the ball. And I agree about needing that kind of shooter. Your post made me remember an old scouting report on I think Rudy Gay. It said he would have trouble dribbling because his arms were long which I think we (Grizzlies board) found kinda funny at the time. Based on what we know, between Emoni and Johnathon we know which of the two doesn't have that problem.

Well, he won't be a 4-year starter, because this is his redshirt frosh year and he's not starting. I could see him starting next year though.

Would Penny be playing Jonathan and Kao as much without being required to due injuries? Or would he still be going with his guys?

I do think the lack of playing time is due to "inexperience" but rather due to lack of defensive ability.

Much better for J Lawson to be eased in rather than relied upon as a starter. I'm really starting to like his game.

What I have been saying is that while we are playing "scrimmage" games against the dredges, he should be getting as much playing time as possible. If we were playing Houston or even UCF, it would be a different story. We are not, we are playing the easy teams and this is the time to take full advantage and give him playing time. Practice only goes so far, at some point you have to get in the games and play through mistakes to develop.

I feel the same way about Kao. As far as I am concerned Kao already deserves the start over Dandridge or C Lawson. Kao's ceiling is so much higher. Getting him into a good groove and getting our guards in the frame of mind to be looking for the easy pass for a dunk is important for later down the road.

Kao may well turn out to be the missing link this year, KD notwithstanding. Someone said the he is working with Dorsey, that should help him out a lot.

Joey was on the radio and said he was done playing, back in the area, and wanted to get into coaching. His interview was a call-in from the Laurie-Walton where he was working with the bigs. He mentioned putting in some good work with Kao. Makes a ton of sense for Penny to do this.

He remains one of my all time favorite Tigers. I would love to see him on Penny's staff in some capacity.
