Div. 2 National Champions
Tony Annese leads the Ferris State Bulldogs in back-to-back Div. 2 National Championship wins. A dominating 41-14 win over Colorado School of Mines whose QB was just awarded the Harlon Hill Trophy (D2 version of the Heisman).

I’ve literally never heard of the school they beat. I didn’t even know mine schools existed.

Studies at that school can go quite deep, if you can dig that.

2 Nattys in a row - how does a coach who's "too old" with "baggage" do that?

Well, he's either the unluckiest coach in America when it comes to "promotions" or there's something else going on. Unless there was private communication, apparently no phone call from WMU, Kent State or a slew of FCS openings including Dayton and Missouri State.

Why do we continue to speculate that TA wants to leave what he’s got at Ferris?

You can argue if the "too old" part is unreasonable, but "baggage" can exist regardless of record.

It’s fair to say that maybe money doesn’t drive him.

But he currently makes under $200k. Difficult to see him turning down an $800k type of offer.

Colorado School of Mines is a highly regarded university with main focus on engineering . An alumnus, Professor Bob Day, taught in the WMU College of Emginering in metallurgy.

Maybe at the age of 61 he's not interested in the pressures of coaching at the D1 level. Who needs to have disgruntled fans writing crap about every decision you make that they don't like.

Some people would pay $600,000 to have dozens of extra hours a week plus all that…9

And some people like to compete for national titles. Stop pretending like you have any clue what TA wants. I certainly don’t.

I dunno, to sign a 4 year contract before retirement while staying within your own state (CMU hire him / EMU replaces Creighton with him?) -- going from, like $180/yr to $680k a year -- even then, that's $2m more to cap off your early 60s.

Think where our program would be if we would have just hired Eddie Robinson or that coach from Mt. Union. Since football success is completely translatable we could've taken a run at the guy from LaSalle High School in California who had like a decades long winning streak. These ADs are all such idiots.

This.

There are any number of reasons TA is staying where he is after so much success, and none of us have any clue what reasons are actually applicable.

A guy I know who used to work for Ferris strength and conditioning told me recently TA just enjoys coaching football and doesn't want to put up with the BS of D1. According to him, he's had offers and even UM kicked the tires on him for some type of role a few years back.

I want to know, how do you recruit Big Rapids and Ferris? Because there is nothing around and GR is an hour away.

There are no D1-FCS schools in state. FSU, GVSC, and SVSU are all recruiting D1-FCS talent to D2 schools.

There is also no early signing period in December for Div 2. Typically, The lower divisions wait for Division 1 schools to fill their recruiting classes before starting to fill their own.

A lot of guys who are undersized and overlooked, Ferris does a very good job at evaluation.

Also they do well with D1 players who transfer down to play for titles.

Ferris has made a nice living on recruiting guys who care more about winning than individual accomplishments.
