Rice WBB vs. Sam Houston
Really poor start. Sam Houston doing what Houston did, pressuring every single dribble and pass on the offensive end. And we're not handling it well. Bad decisions, sloppy turnovers, and not finishing. Less worried about the defensive end. If Sam Houston keeps making these shots, you tip your cap. But something needs to change on the offensive end. I'd really love to see Hayes. Sam Houston is not big and we could really use another dimension to our attack right now.

DJ taking over the game again early in the 2Q Rice now up 18-17, with Jackson scoring 10 points....but she has already picked up her 2nd personal.

I'm so dependent on others watching and updating here to keep me in the loop. Heaven forbid I have to use Google. 03-pissed

The women win again - 68-57 (despite being down 10-15 after one quarter).

Well done, ladies.

9-0 if you’re counting!

We’re #52 in Massey.

Next up is #54 MTSU, currently our highest ranked opponent on the season schedule.

Without looking… who’s our next highest? (Besides the other MTSU game!!)

Either LaTech or ODU?

Today's game was a relatively, low scoring affair in which the teams effectively traded baskets through the 2nd and 3rd quarters. We were up by 1 heading into the 4Q, and we did what good teams do-- we took control of the game early in the quarter, stretched the lead to 13 points at the 5:00 mark, and never let SHS closer than 8 points from that point onward.

Good guesses, both historically strong.
Both are not currently top 100 though.

ODU is tops in the Sunbelt at 108

UAB has had a good RPI from what I've seen, although I don't think they deserve it.

Rice and MTSU are the best two teams in the conference. Charlotte and Louisiana Tech are next. But we're capable of losing some conference games we wouldn't expect to because we do tend to start off slow.

Edmonds needs to spend practice time on handling the press as more and more teams are going to follow the UH scouting report until we stop making a high frequency of turnovers.

What's encouraging about the past couple games is that Crosthwait appears to have finally regained her stroke...and confidence. She took just one shot the entire 2H against UH. Without Maya she is our one legitimate outside shooter (as the Freshmen trio have been way too inconsistent from the parimeter). Separately, Bellamy is playing the best ball in her Rice career-- contributing on both offense and defense, and cutting down a bit on her propensity to foul.

SFA is probably one of those two ahead of UNCC. Only other loss besides Rice is a good Gonzaga, iirc.

Don't know who else on out schedule would be in front of them, so that's my guess for the quiz.

We pulled ahead and won by double digits. We played about as well against this team as TTU and Auburn did so nothing to be embarrassed about, but we can’t afford a start like that against MTSU (who loves to pressure the ball)

Given our depth this year I continue to wonder why don't pressure the ball more.

You got it!

72. SFA
90. Tx A&M
123. St Mary’s
137. TCU
151. Pacific (they were in top 150 yesterday when I posted previously)

Also after yesterday’s win vs now #228 SHSU, Rice drops a spot in Massey to 53 while MTSU is up to 51.
