We're on page 2 for me. But I agree. It's always disappointing. I enjoy talking about things they do well but unless people can complain these threads are pretty dead.

Page 1 for me...you philistines...

UC played Miami on ESPN+. I had it on while doing other things. It certainly didn’t warrant going to the computer and checking the game thread.

I'd buy the espn+ v. Crappy local team thing if the nku game thread wasn't 6 times as long

RE: MIAMI GAMETHREAD
Nolley and DeJulius are now shooting high volume slashes that we haven't seen from any Bearcat in quite some time:

Nolley: 16 ppg shooting 48/43/83 on 11 FG attempts per game
DeJulius: 18 ppg shooting 50/43/78 on 15 FG attempts per game

And they aren't even the most efficient scorer on our team

Lahkin: 70% from the field and 12.5 ppg on 8 FG attempts per game

Say what you will...but the offense has generally been pretty damn good this year, and the defense seems to be settling in after a rough start.

RE: MIAMI GAMETHREAD
I checked out at halftime. We were doing exactly what we should have been doing against an opponent of that talent level. Namely anything we wanted.

Miami is likely going to be a Kenpom 300 type of team. They are bad.

Just looked and they are currently #355 out of 363 in Adjusted Defense. Now I know why it felt like a shoot around.

Ah, I missed the start, so just assumed he started...thanks for clarifying

oguama is like a new person after that 2nd half against Xavier. Playing him alongside Lakhin has been very successful. I hope he keeps it up. On the other hand, what has happened to Ozipke? He was self destructing mode for less than 2 minutes. He has the tools, but not sure he will get used to the competition.
Exactly.....Oguama is the key to the whole thing. If he can give us big boy minutes we've got a chance to compete against good teams. Defend and rebound, to go with what Lahkin gives us and this is a totally different team. Since halftime of the Xavier game, Oguama is a changed man. Kenyon must have really lit a fire under his arse.

I hope so too, but that’s a terribly small sample size.

RE: MIAMI GAMETHREAD
The best part about last night's game was seeing Miller get on some players and the team several times for their lack of defense or being out of position or whatever else they were doing wrong.

He looked pretty angry and even said as much during his halftime interview before heading into the locker room.

Here are some postgame quotes:

Wes Miller's opening statement

“Well, needless to say, offensively there were some really good things tonight when we run and all five are doing their part, the four guys without the ball are running the right way and the guy with the ball is making the simple play. We just keep sharing it. We could be a pretty good team. There were some really good moments sharing the ball tonight. I want more defensively. I thought there were some good stretches. The collective effort and will for the most part was okay. I want more. These guys showed what they're capable of from a focus, effort, and passion standpoint in the second half against Xavier and it's my job to hold them to that standard every second. So, I want a little more there. But there were some really good possessions and some good things defensively. I don’t like how we got out rebounded. I thought there were times the shot would go up and we were just looking at the ball in the air as opposed to boxing out the right way. A lot of it was on the defensive board. Hats off to Miami Ohio, Travis's (Steele) group because they do run some good stuff and they make you guard long into possession with the Princeton offense and they're really good shooting team so long shots, long rebounds, but I still think we can be a really good rebounding team. We've done that at times. That was kind of one of the things that stuck out to me a little bit that I didn't like, but it's good to get a win and for the way we felt in here a couple of days ago, and we got to get back on the practice court tomorrow and we keep trying to get better.”

Announcement of an extension for coach and his thoughts

“Well, first of all, I'm thrilled. I prefer not to sit and talk about me. But I'm thrilled about and like, this is where I want to be. This is home like this is not my home. I love it here. So I'm thrilled and truly appreciative of President Pinto and John Cunningham, like deeply appreciative, and the people here that are supporting our program, like this is home now. And that's just a step in the right direction for me and our staff. So I'm thrilled about it. You know, from a timing standpoint, there's no bad timing for something like that to happen. And I mean, I'm deeply thankful for these kids, the way they're letting us coach and them believing in us and the administration believe in and deeply thankful. It just solidifies more that this is home. I don't want to be anywhere else. So I'm thankful for people making that happen.”

Bolded, the timing of that raise/extension looks pretty good in view of the basketball we've seen since halftime of the Shootout too. I keep wondering if Wes and Roy Williams talk much. Roy seems to really admire Wes and certainly has been a mentor. He's a HOF guy--good to have in your corner as a young high major coach.

Watching last night, I feel as if Wes and the team are progressing toward a pretty impressive offense and an improving defense that remains a work in progress. The first and second half started slowly in terms of scoring but they played through it. We can throw cold water on it saying "it's just Miami" but the Bearcats weren't beating any opponent this way a few short weeks ago.

Finally, is it just me, or was the ESPN+ service a mess again last night? Mine reverted to bad audio again, dropping out for half a second, about every 3 seconds. So annoying I finally just muted it. And I had to reboot at least three times when the video signal crashed. As my wife lamented, we didn't know how good we had it when Channel 19 did these non-conference games. But that's never coming back and I don't mind the + concept if the execution could be improved.

RE: MIAMI GAMETHREAD
One thing that really stands out on the box score is Hensley's 5 assists, 0 TO's, in 11 minutes. He was consistently able to drive and make the right decision. Miami wasn't offering a ton of resistance on defense, but if we're going to praise other guys for performance against a bad defense, Hensley deserves is for tonight as well. He's also one of our best defenders, so if he can continue to play well on offense he should get more minutes.

Our offense is impressive, but I have some concerns about how well it will continue against real defense. DDJ and Nolley rely a lot on taking long 2-point jumpers in iso and against guys who actually guard them those probably stop falling at a high rate. Though we know from last year that DDJ can still make those at a pretty high rate.

Our defense/rebounding still needs a lot of work. I know I keep harping on it, but Nolley and Davenport just don't seem to want to put in the effort on the glass. Ody is helping with that, but we need all of our guys (especially the bigger guys) to be willing to give it their all to beat good to great teams. I'm not sure how you get it out of them, 4 year guys probably aren't going to change their ways.

I only watch ESPN+ through Hulu.

First, I get it for free for some reason and second, I don't get the freezing and glitches from cruddy ESPN+ feeds directly.

This whipping up on lousy teams is all well and good.

We'll see where we really are when we play Houston.

I think the bigger test is Tulane, Temple, and Wichita State. UC needs to be able beat the middle of the pack teams that beat them last year.

Ody, Skillings and Reed each over 20 min. Looks like the bench rotation is beginning to settle in.

No issues with ESPN+ feed here. Using Chromecast or just watching on my Android phone, never had any issues ever with ESPN+, except it forces me to log in again every few weeks/months if I don't use it consistently on a particular device.

Nolley made 5 or 6 incredible passes again last night. He is so talented. He seems like a competitor too. But too often he plays like he's too cool or something. Gotta get him playing with fire and energy more.

Yep...Houston will rightfully kill us, they're arguably the best team in college basketball after all. If we can take care of business and end the conference slate with 4-5 losses max, I'll be very happy with this season overall. Never thought this was a tournament team, but I would like to see us moving in the right direction, then taking off next year.

Miami, you came into the arena and stood toe to toe. I respect you. I will never like you, but I respect you. It took a lot for you to come in, knowing that you would take a beating, and then absorb that beating. You're noble.

But you're also warned. Don't come in again. Take the beating and never come back. In fact, tell the others. Cincinnati is the absolute king of the jungle! And anyone who tries to come into the arena will suffer the same fate!
