As to the AAC, I'm honestly not sure I'd rather be there. Other than Memphis and ECU, there isn't really anything there I'd care to play on a regular basis. All are either snobby privates (Tulsa, Tulane, etc), crappy programs (Temple) or recent CUSA trash that I'm happy to be away from now (Charlotte, etc). As to the rest of your post, we are in a better position now to move up than if we'd stayed in that sinking CUSA ship. If such a realignment as you propose happens, being in CUSA or Sun Belt would not make a bit of difference as to our attractiveness to whatever 'bigger conference' is looking at us. As we showed with CUSA, contracts are made to be broken if necessary. Though I doubt such a situation happens. If there is a break away of the top teams, I doubt we are included, regardless of what conference we may currently reside in.

We are okay with it and quite frankly, after UC, UCF, and UH leave, other than ECU and Navy, we are perfectly happy in the SBC. So enjoy your annual game against Charlotte and FAU...hahaha.. Well, you probably won't enjoy them because they will most likely beat you.

I'm surprised there's anyone out there who thinks staying behind in C-USA was a good option. Maybe older fans who sunk a lot of their own money and time getting Marshall into C-USA in the first place being in denial but no one else.

Marshall was left behind twice by AAC raids on C-USA. The school simply doesn't fit the AAC profile of big metros, urban R1s, giant enrollments, and all that stuff. Maybe in the next few years the ACC will be raided by the SEC and Big 10 and will infill but why stick around in C-USA because that might happen? And would we really want to be in that conference, anyways?

The Sun Belt is a good home. It's almost entirely rural schools with smaller enrollments but very tight geography and some solid football following. It's also the first FBS conference where Marshall isn't the outlier or stepchild. And for the first time in ages, I found myself following and watching our conference mates.

Staying behind in C-USA would mean continuing with their bizarre media deal of the week, playing every game in October on a weeknight, flying to El Paso each season, a basketball tournament setup like the YMCA, and being in a conference where the only requirement to join is a willingness to be in C-USA.

Staying behind would have been an absolute disaster.

This, all of this. I was around for the original move to CUSA. Heck, I was around a few years before that and had some inside info about our attempts to go for football only with our Olympic sports going to the Southern or Horizon which obviously fell through. CUSA has become just a poor shell of itself, certainly not being the conference we joined, or the conference we were left in a few times. It really blows my mind that ANYONE would think we'd be better off there.

Ditto times (pick a number.). Well said fellas. And as one of the oldest fans on this board (72), I’m solidly in the pro SBC camp. It’s the perfect fit for us, based on my years of experience that goes back to 1968.
