He has no depth inside, particular with the zero Ezikpe has provided. But this team is just better on defense with Ody next to Vik and quite frankly doesn't suffer on offense the way JD has been playing.

JD's perfect role is a heat check bench 4 that gets to play a good percentage of his minutes against the other team's backup 4. It's time to make the move.

Barring injury, the starting 5 will remain the same whether they win the rest of their games or lose them all. That's just the way things are in this program. Loyalty is apparently at the top of the mission statement. That's how you bring 3 guys with you from a mid major, sign an assistant's point guard that can't help you and let guys play whatever offense they feel like playing.

Hope I get to eat my words, because I agree - the rotation and roles need a reset.

They brought 3 "mid major" players because the roster was empty. One is gone because he wasn't going to cut it at this level. One was a COVID senior at a huge position of need so he is now gone. The last is a contributor in a position where we just lack talent.

I don't think it's a loyalty thing with JD. It's a lack of depth inside and the fact that your two best inside players are also both fouling more than 6 times per 40 minutes. I still think it's time to make the change, but I understand why it has been hard to do given those issues.

Davenport is a career 35% three-point shooter. And that's taking a bunch of bad ones. He's a severely flawed player, but you have to find a place for a 6'6" guy who can knock down 3s. Gotta get him taking good, set 3s within the offense. I'm not too hopeful though.

RE: Crosstown Shootout
I'd rather almost anyone get those minutes at the 4.

When he's not getting used by his own man on D, he floats around, misses assignments and gets guys like Vik hung out to dry leading to fouls.

When he goes ball stopper chucking up silly heat check shots guys like Nolley quit moving.

If Wes doesn't make changes PDQ he'll deserve the vitriol that is about to start heading his way.

I don't care, I was responding to something you posted here on this message board. Make a big show about not watching the game but then come on here and act all pissy: to each his own is right.

Glad you got some family time.

What are you the post police? If I want to get pissy so be it! I've followed, spent money on and rooted for this program for over 30 years and this is a sports message board. Focus on you and you'll be a better man for it.

If the guy can't guard anyone, then his place should be at the end of the bench next to the cheerleaders.

RE: Crosstown Shootout
My takeaways after attending the shootout:

1) We were the recipients of a really poor home whistle. We needed almost everything to go our way if we stood a chance and this could have flipped the outcome.
2) It was good to finally see Ody play with some balls again in the second half. That and 1 dunk was one of the best moments 5/3rd has had in way too long
3) Same old same old; one teams comes out swinging, the other comes out afraid and on their heals
4) Like most have already commented: JD's minutes need to be limited. Though, they did run a nice play for him to get an open 3 to start the second half and spark the comeback

What I hate about JD's career is I think the role he was forced to play because ewe didn't have guys who could score has hurt his development. He's decided he is a guy who needs to hunt his shot. That was true 2 years ago and true last year, because we just didn't have scoring options. Now there are better scorers. He should be a stretch 4 who takes open threes, or plays out of the high post against zone to either shoot if they back off him or dump to the post/kick out depending on how the zone reacts. He's got the mentality of the main guy now and it just isn't working.

All really true and sadly so. He's a casualty of a fluid roster for more than three years now that's never had the right mix. In '22, with some improvement in talent overall, it's left him as an odd fit as Wes tries to find a cohesive starting unit.
