The best lineup would include Davis, Lomax, and Kennedy as the starting guards. You'll see when Lomax recovers from his injury, and your eyes need a new prescription.

At 6'5", 16pts for Kennedy on 4 for 7 shooting (3 of 5 from three). That's a decent line for a shooting guard should have as the 3rd option on the team.

Instead of giving him a bit of a break, you had to play your star player 31 minutes in a blowout, because nobody else could run the point without him. Also, Lomax is the point guard and KD is the two guard.

CONFUSED_NEWS as usual.

We are better with Lomax than w/out. You guys are making this an all or nothing kind of thing. However, in an ideal world, Lomax probably wouldn’t play the 2. It’s not that he can’t, it’s just that he’s really too small for that position and when Penny plays KD and A Lo together it takes time away from a player that better fits that position. Just my opinion.

FWIW, the small ball guard thing has worked way better this year than it did before, but I’m still not a huge fan of it.

Objectively, Lomax doesn't play the 2. He's usually playing point.

We’re better without Lomax. You’ll understand soon enough, I know the eye test is the hardest thing to understand.

Historically, we aren't. I know common sense is the hardest thing to understand. We might be at some point, we are getting closer, but we aren't yet.

That’s true. KD and A Lo are somewhat interchangeable. Any which way, you’re still playing 2 small guards, which is less than ideal. And if both are in the game at the same time, someone is losing playing time.

As long as we have another guard that can actually shoot consistently, we'll be fine and it will take pressure off of Davis. As it stands, Lomax is one of the top defenders on the team, and we're not as good without him. Perhaps one of the other guards will suddenly step it up on defense, but I haven't seen it yet. I expect our strongest lineup would be Davis, Lomax, and Kennedy; assuming Lomax comes back at 100%.

Penny was actually asked about what he’s going to do once Lomax and Dandridge come back. He insinuated that those two would need to be patient since we are playing well with this particular group. We shall see

Do you remember when he said this? I'd like to find that press conference on YouTube.

It was the postgame presser. He said they needed to be humble while reintegrating into the team flow. We desperately need Dandridge at times. Alo is a great part of this team but we are much more difficult to guard with Keonte and McCadden on the court.

Who knows what Penny will do but it didn't sound like he would be changing up the starting lineup.

I watched the post game presser. I actually posted it here, and I didn't hear what the original poster had implied so I thought it had to be from another source. I too like how we've been performing, but I feel that being "difficult to guard" has more to do with people actually starting to hit shots than anything else. Until recently, few could hit the side of a barn from three, wide open or not. That has been improving and is encouraging.

RE: Your Starting 2 Guard...
At the beginning of the season, I had hoped that Kennedy, McCadden and Franklin could take minutes away from Lomax. It looks like Kennedy and McCadden can right now, but Franklin might be better suited to playing the 3. IMO, the most important change isn't Lomax getting 30 minutes at the expense of Kennedy and McCadden, it is Lomax getting 5 of KD's minutes. KD is tough but we aren't being honest if we don't admit that we are worried sick about all those bad landings on his ankles.

Right now, KD has to be in the game all the time. He's tough, but I would rather get him down to 30 minutes per game, instead of potentially having him wear down when it comes to the conference tournament and beyond. SMU isn't a good basketball team, but when KD went to the bench it was a disaster. When that happens, I would much rather have DW run the point instead of Kennedy or McCadden.

Kennedy and McCadden have been really good at both ends of the court and are going to improve, but right now they need KD or Lomax with them, they aren't very good options as primary ballhandlers.

I agree, we need Lomax back to take some pressure off Davis for the long haul.

Lomax will probably need reduced minutes just with having that groin issue. I cant tell you how easy it is to repull a groin after doing it. And without any warning. I was plagued with it for years while I was highly active. Once I slowed down I havent had an issue since. It is one of those nagging things thats always there to rear its ugly head when you dont expect it.

Penny alluded to this in his pre SMU game presser. Because how hard Alex plays he's not going to rush it. Maybe he can play Alex 15 minutes a game, 5 with KD plays the 2 and 10 when KD is off the floor.

The emergence of KK allows for Alex to play back up point with Jonathan Lawson and combination of Jayden or DeMaria Franklin playing on the perimeter with him

The team is playing better now than at any other time with Penny coaching, let the coach make the decisions.

I don't think we can afford to not have McCadden on the floor. Unless we go small to start the game and play Williams at the five and McCadden at the four, either Lomax or Kennedy will be coming off the bench.

Why would you say that? A strong lineup would be Williams, C. Lawson, Kennedy, Lomax, and Davis. All of this is assuming Lomax is fully healthy. If not, I feel he needs to be coming off the bench and playing limited minutes.
