Malco's minutes are a bout right as a limited role player
Alo has no business starting. He is a servicable backup PG but him playing almost 30 minutes/game is insanity. He should be about half that.
Jayden has no business playing significant minutes for a high level D1 much less starting. He should be 5-8 minutes/game instead of 18
McCadden, Kennedy and J Lawson should be getting the majority of those minutes and of course now Franklin.
I don't know if it's loyalty, as much as trust.
One thing I do know.
Whenever Lomax is playing well, the OP dude is quiet.
First time he has an off game, the hyenas are yipping.
And I think J-Law still qualifies as an East guy.
Call what you want but the end result is the same and that is the East boys playing far too many minutes...Whether J Lawson is technically an East kid or not is irrelevant because Penny clearly does not see him in the same light as the other three...
That's my point, when you try to pigeonhole it as an "East high" issue. The Lawsons are part of that category.
So you have Malco - who has been moved to the bench and fewer minutes. And J-Law - who is buried on the bench. Those are 2 exceptions to the "East high" theory. Point being, I don't think Penny is as simple-minded as you guys are trying to make him.
We've seen it basically with every coach we've ever had. Some players get a lot of rope (Andre Allen, Chris Crawford), while others get a short leash (Willie Kemp, Joe Jackson). Call it trust, loyalty, practice, whatever.
Okay, I guess I need to be very specific for you on this one...
East High boys is not inclusive of any and all players who have ever played basketball for East High School but rather the group of players that Penny coach in high school and who immediately followed him to play at Memphis...
Chandler went to Oregon
J-Law I am not sure if was ever even coached by Penny at EH.
They are not really exceptions because they were not part of the East High class that immediately followed Penny to Memphis.
And the line about Malco getting fewer minutes just is not true. He played 17 minutes against Bama before going out with an injury. His season high in minutes before that were only 21 (game one and 19 against season Hall). Other than that he is typically right in the 17-18 minute window with the except of two games where he only played 8 and 5. His last 5 games are 5, 18, 17, 8 and 17.
I think Penny is actually a really good coach and has improved every year but I do also absolutely believe he has loyalty to a fault with that specific group of 3 players who he coached all through their high school careers. And I think next year when they are all gone it will be like an anchor removed from his neck and Penny's will become a top tier coach.
Chandler and Jonathan both played under Penny at East until he was gone, IIRC. Probably as much as Jayden played under him.
And as you show with Malco's numbers - they have gone down. You want to exclude the 5 and 8 games, but you can't really do that. Anyway, I was really alluding to the fact that Malco was removed from the starting lineup.
I just don't think Penny is simple-minded w East kids as some of you indicate. I think it's more complex than that - specifically with Lomax.
But there's no need to go back and forth any longer - we just won't agree.

I assume so here. Sometimes we want to make things much more complex when the reality is the very simply and basic answer...

I'll give you this - you salvaged your OP with the last statement. However, creating the thread with "your starting 2 guard" and the first two statements of your OP clearly dictate your intentions on that post. You even mentioned the players that were "asked to not come back" in your reference.
Going back to what you did right, the last statement. Those last minutes of a ranked opponent, on the road, showed you what Franklin could mean to this team. Hopefully everything you saw last night, showed that Penny made the right call.

What signatures? In all seriousness, that's one of the first things I did when I signed up for the board. Best decision I've made. Too many posters who like the smell of their own farts.

So basically you're admitting your reading comprehension is inadequate given 1) it was Franklin's first game of the year for which he came off the bench thus 2) Franklin was never a starter to that point (Alo was).
Franklin obviously didn't meet the 'starting 2 guard' requirement so thinking that statement was about him was silly to put it politely. ( That'll make a great sig)

Yes, thanks for the tip. Cleared it for me, as well. I wish people would keep their political BS out of this forum - go over to the political-religious forum if you have political grievances you need to discuss.
