Although he's coming off the bench, he is getting lots o minutes, so I don't have as much a problem with him not starting. I really like him, too.

Hmmmm...... I must have a typo on the year. Don't have time to dig back in right at the moment. See what year Ga. Tech game was, if you have time.

[edit: Best I can tell, my original post is accurate, at least according to sports-reference.com. Beat Ga. Tech 11-22-15.]

I’m not trying to give you a hard time at all. I just I’m trying to find it. I checked seasons 2014 through 2018 and can’t find anything like that. Could you be remembering the Bartow era?

I know you're being sincere, but what's wrong with this?:

ETSU hoops schedule, record, players, etc., for 2015-2016

Shows us 4-5 after the loss to UNC-A Dec. 15, 2015 - etc., etc. Then ended 24-12.

I must be totally lost. This is what I find when I look up the same season:

https://www.google.com/search?q=etsu+bas...mt;fp;1;;;

Well......not *totally* lost, but you're a year off. Your link actually shows the dates of those games, and they're from 2016-2017.

How much did we pay Queens to get beat by them at home??? Geez...

I think back to Kevin Tiggs and after one year of acclimating himself to D1 ball became a scoring machine his senior season. Hopefully, Smith captures that same magic.

RE: Official Game Thread: Queens
I suspect Smith is trying to “play within himself”, follow the coach’s system, and not rock the boat. Of course, also adjusting to D1. But we need him to get a chip on his shoulder over this losing situation and start taking more on. He’s the only player on this team with both guard skills and a high major body (NBA, even, if the skills rise up). He has shown some flashes of going where he wants and doing what he wants. That was a pretty three bomb at the end of the game last night to make it a one possession game/opportunity to tie. Side note, really wish Tipler would have hit that tying shot, but I just don’t think he’s a go-to guy, nor did we deserve to come out of that effort with a miracle. Questioning his value right now, tbh.

I wonder if Coach Oliver truly has the personnel here that he wants. His incoming class and those who return for the 23/24 season may indicate he wants a bigger, more physical team. If King provided the firepower he had last year, we might have 3 or 4 more wins this year.

RE: Official Game Thread: Queens
Several good points here. First, I don't think we paid Queens, they're a D1 member of the ASun. I assume they're in their transition year, meaning they can't play in the postseason, but I hope we didn't pay them. We shouldn't have. Rothstein is on top of things in basketball, but he may not be aware they're a D1 program.

I also agree the thought that Oliver may not have 'his guys' in yet. I really feel, however, that he made a mistake with his 3 early signees last year. Don't get me wrong, I don't have anything against Gregory, Ilic, or Shaw, but maybe Gregory is the only one he should have signed. What we really need is another experienced guard, IMO, who's a shooter and a driver, and with D1 or even juco experience. That could make all the difference with King struggling.

I get that Jancek had an ankle injury, but he said he's practicing. If he's practicing, play him. He only played 8 guys in that last game - Shaw got in for seconds, I think.

So at this point, why not change it up? I think the starting 5 needs to change, and I would start Tipler and Smith. Someone said that would lead to more turnovers, but according to the box, Smith & Tipler had only one turnover between them in the last game. I know Smith was charged with 3 vs. Morehead State, but still, change it up. Bring King & Strothers off the bench, and maybe only put King & Tipler together, and Strothers & Smith. Again, I think if you have King & Tipler they have to respect the 3 pointer, so they have to extend their defense. With Strothers & Smith you have to at least respect the 3 from Smith. It's all dependent on matchups with the other team, but I think a change is in order. I know - I'm not the coach, way above my pay grade - just a suggestion.

Another thing I would suggest is that if you're gonna press, PRESS. One thing I really liked about Bartow was that "black" press we used to run, which trapped and tried to force turnovers. An easy bucket or two early in the 1st or 2nd halves would certainly get things moving. This team seems to come out of the locker room with zero energy, and typically if you press like that, it gets them going much faster. Just my observation, torch me if I'm wrong. Even if it doesn't turn them over, maybe it gets our guys going a little faster.

Finally, I think I might play just about the whole damn bench. Find out who can get the job done with the lights on. This is probably too radical, but change something. Doing the same thing is getting you beat.

I totally agree with this. I would add about the early signees that a point guard transfer like Tisdale or Sloan would have us on a higher level right now. But I like the idea of changing it up because they really could not do any worse.

RE: Official Game Thread: Queens
I actually think we are trending in the right direction; still a work in progress, but improving. The Bucs had only 9 turnovers in the game; Haynes and Smith were both more assertive on offense (as the team needs them to be); and the team shot 42% from 3 for the game. Those are big steps in the right direction.

Without question, the battle on the boards was where this game was lost. The Bucs were outrebounded 42-31. The disadvantage was 17-6 on the offensive boards, and that led to a whopping 23-5 Queens' advantage in second chance points. That's amazing — amazingly bad, that is. The Bucs had to do a lot of other stuff right during the game to get to the point where they had a chance there at the end.

Obviously, there is still plenty of room for improvement. The team needs to keep working hard each and every day (coaches and players), striving to get a little better each time out. If they do, this could be a really good team late in the year.

Fingers crossed.

It's generally considered proper to credit the 'work' of others when showing it again. See post #20 this thread. Really not trying to be snarky, altho this may seem like it. And heck, it may just be total coincidence.....
Just a reminder. 04-cheers

Heck, it may be that in memory of Rodshaw I've been skipping your posts to avoid all the self-congratulatory pap.

Welcome back. Didn't miss you a bit. (meant, of course, in a totally non-snarky way)

Of course. Tried *not* to post that, but the resemblance was too obvious.
If you've been skipping my posts........awfully curious even down to the amazing use of "amazing". 03-lmfao
And if it's just a coincidence (which I realize it could be), then bad look on you for repeating it. Just sayin'. 04-cheers
