Agreed, we've seen flashes of his ability. He's athletic, fast and can jump through the roof. He just has that one minor deficiency so far, hitting his shots. I think when he finds his rhythm he's going to be a solid contributor.

Why do people give Franklin a bye when Lomax has shown himself to be the far superior option on every level thus far? It's hilarious.

Who was comparing Lomax and Franklin?

But to answer your question... Franklin has played a handful of games in a Memphis uniform and is still adjusting while Lomax is fully adjusted after years in the system. It is also presumed that Franklin has a much higher ceiling than Lomax hence why you would be willing to extend extra grace while he transitions.

I never said anyone specifically was. It was a general statement. If you've noticed, in this thread, people are being very forgiving of Franklin when objectively, he's putting up among the worst numbers on the team. Similar threads (and ancillary discussions within threads) that have focused on Lomax typically involve people pointing out every mistake, to the point of hyperbole, to demonize him. Do you feel that's not the case?

It's important to understand that Franklin is a senior. We're not talking about a player who's wet behind the ears and new to the college game. Furthermore, he has consistently missed easy points (among other lapses), especially on fast breaks, that have nothing to do with learning anyone's system. Perhaps he has a higher ceiling. I genuinely hope that he does, and I'm still cautiously optimistic that he can reach his billed potential. Unfortunately, thus far, he hasn't shown much after ten straight games in a Tigers uniform.

I just find it interesting that Lomax gets very little respect and everyone is seemingly fawning over the shiny new thing, even when it's turning fingers green.

He has been under the wing of Penny for approximately 10-12 years....For a player (that plays the same position as his mentor) to have essentially remained a MEDIOCRE performer his entire tenure, is why I referenced him as a "knucklehead"....Players are essentially knocking down the door to come here and be under the tutelage, to essentially better themselves, such as Damaria. Hence we have those with the audacity to chastise a player that has been here for a few months;had issues getting cleared; as well as playing catchup to acclim8 himself to the system/pace/style of play....

Damaria has more athletic ability than Alo; he's taller;stronger and essentially plays the same aggressive style of defense....I'm sure we would be absolutely amazed with Damaria at this point in his career, had he been in this system prior to this year, let alone 12 like Lomax...

Alo has NEVER had the pleasure of EARNING his position because of the "coddling" from Penny...He has been allowed to make mistakes (that get ignored/overlooked), where others making those same mistakes, are pulled in favor of him....If anyone doesn't see how this phenomena would cause descention, either have never coached;never played or been closely affiliated with competitive sports....From this perspective, there is NO disdain for Alex Lomax (the person). I essentially have seen this scenario play out over the years of Penny's career....Have "direct" personal experience, also have desire for these TIGERS as well as Penny and staff to reach the pinnacle that been so elusive for this program....

A team CANNOT be built around Alo....Let me rephrase....A CHAMPIONSHIP team (at this level) CANNOT be built around Alo....Why is there such an immense desire for Penny to accomplish this unattainable feet....That is a BILLION $ question...

I love the tenacity/mentality of Damaria....We need his size;strength;toughness;will and desire to get out there and compete....He is NOT hurting the team as much as Alo does and has nowhere to go but up.....04-rock04-rock04-rock GtG

This team is built around Davis...and, hopefully, Williams.

Alo has consistently accepted a role of coming off the bench when he has been asked to over the years; and I expect that he will come off the bench for the rest of the year when he returns. Similarly, Damaria has accepted a role coming off the bench as well. Both have accepted their roles gracefully and both play very hard. I like them both and look forward to Alo getting back into the swing and look forward to Damaria the last 4 1/2 games of the season when this thread predicts he will be fully integrated into the offense and productive.

Lay off the drugs. I mean that with the best intentions. Nothing you've regurgitated in that wall of text demonstrates anything other than your blind hatred of Lomax.

Franklin has been bad, there is no way around that. Like say, I think people are not so much giving him a pass as much as they are giving him a chance to get acclimated with the team given the late waiver and having only played 10ish games.

People also fall in love with athleticism, see the thread about Kao being our answer. y pretty much every metric Chandler Lawson is a better player but for whatever reason many think Kao should be playing far more minutes than him. That same line of thinking holds true for Franklin as he is far more athletic than Lomax.

During Penny's tenure, the ONLY consistent piece (at the guard position) has been Alo...01-wingedeagle multiple players have come and gone, as well as players that wanted to be here (Kennedy Chandler) had NOT been offered, mainly due to Alo or the auspice that He is our pg....I DON'T recall a time or period when Alo was coming off of the bench, And willing to bet the house that he will be back into the starting lineup;playing 25-30 minutes per game....Which TOTALLY causes a chaotic offense, as opposing coaches study film and realize that he (Alo) is NOT a threat....

KD has to work extremely hard to overcompens8 for the INEPT play of Alo and that is NOT sustainable in a playoff situation either conference nor NCAA's....Hell, with Alo on the floor...This team was getting KICKED by USF/ECU @home....."Well...well...well...Alo stopped Tyler Harris late in the game and and he got 7 steals vs ECU" 05-nono He's been playing against Tyler ALL of his dayum life....As well those steals DON'T take place vs well-coached teams or players that are better prepared for his Kamikaze antics.....He CAN'T shoot;CAN'T finish;CAN'T score;CAN'T pass;CAN'T run a "proper" break;CAN'T draw fouls....etc etc etc....Alo IS GARBAGE.....Fuel To The FireEpic Rage GARBAGE @ THAT

Jonathon Lawson is a much better asset/player than Alo @ this moment 04-chairshot

Can't shoot ?------FG% ALO .448 -Davis .409------3pt% ALO .318 -Davis .301

People also fall in love with athleticism, see the thread about Kao being our answer. y pretty much every metric Chandler Lawson is a better player but for whatever reason many think Kao should be playing far more minutes than him. That same line of thinking holds true for Franklin as he is far more athletic than Lomax.

I understand what you're saying. Unfortunately, a faster horse isn't necessarily the best horse at the end of the day. I'm for whatever we need to continue to win games. Both Kao and Franklin have athleticism and potential for growth. Conversely, both being seniors makes me take pause, but playing for the Tigers has been an increase in competition, so some adjustment is warranted. I'm just disappointed that after ten games with the team, playing not insignificant minutes, we have yet to see even a glimmer of what was announced when Penny indicated Franklin was the third best player.

Ultimately, I certainly haven't written them off yet. Time will tell and nothing would make me happier than to see Franklin (and Kao) come into their own this season. We could use the help, especially with Lomax injured and Dandridge likely to be rusty when he's back in the rotation.

I DEFINITELY will NOT entertain this conjecture beyond this point.....If there is ANY part of the person/entity behind your keyboard that SERIOUSLY feels that Alex Lomax is anywhere close to the effectiveness/level of play as Kendrick Davis....Then said entity has NEVER played a "serious" game of basketball.....EVER 05-nono ....Analyze KD's metrics/statistics since Alo has been injured....The numbers will SHOCK you as Lomax being on the floor with KD....Is a SERIOUS hindrance to "how" effective KD can be with Alo on the floor.....opposing coaches know the limitations of Alo, which is directly related to how long he has to take a shot when he's forced into making the shot.....They will NEVER guard Alo, EVEN if he hits 10 3's in a row....He is what is called/considered a "Self-Check":shhhh:
