Can you expand on this? Something to do with Harper?

It's the same thing that happened at WKU. Harper is one of the best bench coaches I have ever seen but his recruiting is just woeful. He's good for a flash in the pan season where everything comes together, but over the long term his poor recruiting catches up with him.

Too bad we can't get a clone of Ray bench coaching abilities combined with Stanz recruiting abilities.

Never seen a coach do more with less than Ray. 4 tournament bids where he was a 16 seed twice and a 15 seed the other two times still tells a tale about his recruiting. Also funny how he lost his conference tournament semi-finals last year but got in the tournament off a technicality. But sure, lets count it. Below are the Kenpom rankings for all his teams. Wins his fair share of games, but his teams are just plain average with average talent that he squeezes every ounce out of. And he's not going to possibly have another losing season this year. They are 5 games under .500 and favored to win only 2 of their last 10. On track for 20+ losses in his 7th season.

171, 149, 169, 157, 142, 110, 285, 162, 148, 290.

Now I know where that Kenpom comment on the WKU board came from.

Right now Liberty and Kennesaw State are tied for first place in the ASun at 7-1 respectively. KSU has come a long way in MBB over the previous few years.

Bearkats climb to number 63 in the kenpom after soundly beating a good Seattle squad. Defense was all over the place and Seattle couldn’t make a shot.

Same! We will certainly have to prove ourselves in football but in basketball baseball and everything else we should be very competitive across the board. Especially baseball. Expect some great matchups with liberty

You can certainly counting on at least one guy in Liberty gear at Sanders Field when we match up.

I'll be honest, this run by the Bearkats this season certainly has caught me off guard. Well done, Sam!

It has surprised me, also. If history is any indicator we will lose our first game in the conference tournament.

Are you surprised? Welcome to what we had to deal with all the years we were dominant in CUSA/Sun Belt and the more conference games we played the worse our NET/RPI got. You guys are just experiencing for the first time because this is the only year you've had a good team. Just be glad it's not dropping more. We had to put up with a ton of terrible FAU teams over the years destroying our ranking no matter how much we won by.

But did you beat the spread in those 7 wins? Winning alone isn't enough to secure your position in the NET. How you win really matters.

Last night UNT beat UTEP by 10. That is a solid win, but only moved us up 1 spot in the NET. The spread was 8.5 for that game. We simply didn't win by enough points for it to really register with the NET.

Last night FAU beat WKU by seven, but the spread favored FAU by 14 points. Although FAU won, failing to beat the spread cost you 2 spots in the NET.

Now, the spread is officially not part of the NET formula, but it sure seems to be a solid guide for what teams have to do on the court if they want to move up in the rankings.

At Liberty, we have moved quickly up the NET & KemPom rankings the past couple of weeks in spite of playing ASUN competition. Of course we have been winning by 15-20 a game which the computers seem to love. So this does give some validation to the point spread theory.

Liberty, SHSU, KSU all having good years bodes well for the basketball future of C-USA. JSU has been good in the recent past. I expect they will get back to at least a respectable level or better.

NMSU and WKU have Strong traditions and will not be down for long.
