NIL - OpenDorse
I just checked out OpenDorse.com in depth. It’s incredibly easy to set up an NIL deal directly with a player. I sent one asking to record a short video for my daughter. It’s a super easy way to support our players.

My only real complaint is they add a 32% fee to run the site. They said it keeps it free for the player.

Check it out if you haven’t already. Direct NIL deals.

32% commission?

Heck, just try to contact the player through the athletic dept...

They just trying to make money as the middle men for making that same phone call to the school.....

Or... The player may have a Facebook or Instagram account that you could even contact them directly...if you were sure it was actually the player's account.

As someone who gives money to the University, there’s a fine line between paying someone for NIL vs just paying them. The website allows for a degree
of separation.

If I understand correctly you can contact and deal with a current player (not a recruit) and pay them under NIL rules however much you want to for whatever they agree to do from a personal message, autograph, picture, whatever. Does not matter if you are a Memphis fan or booster or not.

I used Opendorse once and I agree the 33% cut is a lot. I think the only value that opendorse brings is that they report the transaction to the Athletic Department so the player doesn't have to. Not sure that is worth 33%. You don't have to use opendorse if you don't want to.

They aren't taking a 33% cut - they are adding 33% to whatever the deal with the athlete is and putting that in their own pockets.

The athlete gets their money and it appears that Opendorse gets your money essentially for doing something you could have done for yourself.

Yes, that's what I meant. They add a 33% fee. It seems unreasonably high. I don't think agents get that much.

Agents generally deal with the salary contracts. These guys are trying to make some money off $100 - $5,000 one-off deals.

If you use them though you are literally paying 33% to have someone else ask the player for you instead of just asking yourself....

Did the NIL side of Bluff City NIL ever get launched, that FatCat mentioned a few weeks back? I read some of their online media content and they have a message board, too. But have not kept up with their NIL status.

I'm not sure what happened to this. They changed their name from Bluff City NIL to Bluff City Media. I don't know how many NIL payments they've made to student athletes. Seems like it is just a sports media company now.

You don't generally withhold taxes when you pay self-employed independent contractors.

Didn't Bluff City NIL post something on Twitter about something huge coming, then delete it? Did they fizzle out?

I think they just changed into a sports media company.

RE: NIL - OpenDorse
I believe maybe they split the NIL and the media into separate entities. Media side seems to be picking up speed. Not sure status on NIL.
