Trevor Andrews should definitely stay. The Linebackers have played phenomenal since he's been here.

Anybody looking to be a HC has a list of people he would want to bring with him, as he should.

But that's his call.

I think this is how it is going to go... however I do believe he meets with everyone still on staff and gives them a shot to interview - we do have some solid pieces...
New coaches will often keep 1 or 2 assistants from the previous staff so you can have some continuity.

I am really hoping he brings Josh Stepp with him from Louisville as OC. Look at that guy's resume on Louisville's website. He's won everywhere he has been and comes from a football family. in SC and have been following stepp since he was in the HS football scene around here, so when I heard Taylor might be the guy, the first thing I said was man, if he brings Josh Stepp with him, it is game on!!! Lets goooooo!!!

Don't expect him to keep any of current staff.

As far as people he worked with at Louisville - likely some since Brohm is bringing many of his own guys.

Some may go to Cincy with Satterfield.

And some may be out of jobs altogether like Lester's staff.

Taylor has a lot of contacts based on his experience, shouldn't have too much trouble filling out his staff.

Way of the world in coaching CFB.

RE: The Official Coach Taylor Staff Building Thread
I have to agree with Major here...

This is Taylors time to put his stamp on this program. Keeping old coaches around leaves a smell of the previous program that can sometimes cause rifts in the staff... I think It all comes down to how existing coaches interview with Taylor. I would think he would at the very least interview the likes of Celiscar and Lou... Defense wasn't really a problem - but that was the side of the ball responsible for a majority of those "15 yard penalties"...

Im really interested in who he tabs to run the offense... and the scheme he wants to implement. I am going to guess we are going to look offensively very similar to Standfort and ND... and he's going to focus hard on both sides of the Line with regard to portal and recruiting... I just feel like we are going to be largly run game focused.

I hope he gets an OC who is qb/pass game oriented since Lance is a run game oriented guy. They can balance each other out with a game plan. As far as defense, I was never thrilled with Espo. His defenses always gave up lots of big plays.

I would also be surprised if Taylor doesn't want his own guys at spots like OC/DC. Less surprised if a position coach like Celiscar stayed on.

We need some news badly, athletics has not been very hot the last couple of weeks and I need something to be excited about.

Lance has to build most of his coaching staff this next week. At the same time he will have to solidify recruiting, focus on current team players, and try to get a couple of the portal kids back. How to juggle 4 balls at once? I heard that only 3 of the recruits have bailed so far, one being the QB from TX. And we might be able to get 1 or 2 of the 8 portal kids back.

Has he named ANY coaches yet?

IMO DC is a huge spot to not pick your guy. Keeping a few other coaches may seem wise for recruiting and help acclimating staff to new environment. But not OC/DC.

I’m afraid to say that we had the big (for us) media splash for Coach Taylor’s initial hiring. From here on out, I suspect we’re in the dreaded Bronco sports media free zone where we basically have to scratch and claw for every nugget of information we can get our hands on. I like how the media covers the head coach’s hiring like the Broncos are a big deal (like it should be!) and then they pretty much ignore us…even during the season.

As bad as we’re getting killed on the D-Line in the portal, I was impressed with the young (mostly freshmen) D-Linemen that got a good number of snaps last season. They certainly need to develop and grow but the group could be solid in a year or two…just in time to then move on to a new team.

Keeping Espo is a good decision, both from a standpoint of recruiting and maintaining stability through the transition. Our problem for several seasons now hasn't been the defense, but the offense sputtering at key moments.

Honestly, with the exception of this year, the offense was very very good. Espo seems to be a hit with the players though and this is likely a move to keep the team together / get back some of the portal guys hopefully. I like Espo and hope he does a great job, but we can't pretend that it was the offense that was the problem.

Here are our PPG numbers since 2017.

2017
Offense: 26th
Defense: 82nd

2018
Offense: 40th
Defense: 106th

2019
Offense: 33rd
Defense: 57th

2020
Offense: 10th
Defense: 94th

2021
Offense: 34th
Defense: 81st

2022
Offense: 119th
Defense: 49th
