All thoughts and sympathy to the Cruz family. It must be absolute hell knowing that your child is in pain.

I got lucky with my oldest. He's 14, gets good grades, athletic, lots of friends, has a prom queen caliber girlfriend that is absolutely wonderful, and has always kind of been at the top of the pyramid. My middle girl is only 7 but seems to be heading on a similar path. Of course I say this knocking on wood as mental health can indeed be hidden under the surface undetected.

Not sure about my youngest. She got the short end of the stick wrt Covid since socialization at 2-3 years old pretty much 100% has to be organized. So she didn't have anyone her age to play with for 2 years and is now 4 and extremely immature. We'll see if she catches up, but she might be the biggest challenge.

I find really all you have to do is talk to them and be involved. Sometimes I take my son out for a few hours to do whatever. Might be 2 hours in before he opens up or says anything meaningful about anything. Just need to put in the time. Senator Cruz is a busy man that travels all over the country and is probably rarely home. I doubt he has the time for extended one on one periods with his kids. I'm sure he cares and tries, but they aren't going to open up if you just show up in their room from time to time and ask. I like Ted Cruz and tend to agree with most of his political views, but if I were him I'd be resigning.

RE: Prayers for Ted Cruz and Family
I have a 15 year old son, 12 and 10 year old daughters. They don't follow any of those "social media influencers" or any of that crap. They don't talk about anything different than when I was a kid. Biggest difference is that they do have technology to play games, do school work, and research things without having to go to the library. I think so much of this is overblown it isn't funny.

Kids will always have struggles in their teens. It is a parent's job to keep an eye on them, support them, and show them you love them unconditionally. Be there when they have questions, and encourage them at all levels. I don't think this is a crisis of anything other than parenting in this country. Part of that is the whole "you can't punish your kids" view that so many people have now. My kids have expectations, and know the results of not making those expectations. They have each been spanked 1 time in their life and realized who is boss, and we've never had an issue again. They get good grades, and they handle their chores.

This is an area that both sides of the media really miss... they blame the other political group instead of putting the blame squarely on the parents. At the end of the day the kids are reflective of their parents.

That's funny. And, pathetic. But, mostly pathetic.

The entire popular culture.....media, hollywood, TV, commericals and social media are just over the top anti-men and anti-masculinity.

The whole machine is working overtime to teach children that tradition families with a mother and father raising up strong, family oriented young men and women is evil and has to be tossed out forever.

Your the one bearing false witness Tom, I clearly quoted and responded to a post that was speaking specifically on mental heath in kids today, not Ted's daughter.

Honestly Tom, the fact that the post triggered you into negative repping me just illustrated that I made a very true and important point on the topic.

Dude, I gave you a -1 out of a possible -3. Relax. 07-coffee3

Silly me to think I could post a thread merely encouraging people to have a kind thought about the young girl and her family and not have it devolve into the norm. 03-yawn

Why on earth would I be upset Tom? It caused mutiple people to positive rep me in response. So thank you. 04-cheers

Unlike you Tom most of us here can actually walk and chew gum at the same time. We can process the sad news about Ted's daughter AND have a real conversation about mental health in kids.

Again, I just thought it didn't belong in a thread about a politician's daughter. Especially since we know pretty much nothing about her.

I saw nothing to get overly upset about personally. Evidently he pushed a button with you...that I do not have.07-coffee3

Great points, both of you. Whatever we think of their parents, grandparents, aunts or uncles, these poor political kids get extra doses of some of the worst poison that social media has to offer. And we probably all know of children with non-famous parents who've had serious problems due to social media, without half the country saying terrible things about one of the most important people in their lives every day. Very few if any of these kids are likely of the age and have the influence to have played a real role in encouraging their family member to bring the public spotlight onto the family.

I've had a couple of conversations with Rand about his concerns over subjecting Will, Robert, and Duncan to it.

Did you also punch him like his neighbor did? I wouldn't continue bragging about knowing the Bush family or Paul family. It's not the flex you think it is.

I always thought the bet-welching comments were something of a cheap shot, JD. But then I read a comment like this and realize that you are somehow even a lower human being than a merely dishonest internet poster.

I agree with most of this. The problem are the kids that fall through the cracks. That's always been an issue but social media has been especially bad for those kids. Mine are young but they don't have tablets and I restrict cartoon time and monitor it very closely. The number of parent that I see out and about who just stick a screen in the kids face at the first sign of inconvenience is really disturbing.

I don't disagree with anything you said, there will always be a few that fall through the cracks. But I still think overall it is almost always a parenting issue. My kids have had tablets since they were very young, but I still limit screen time. When they were younger and less able to handle their behavior I'd put a cartoon on in front of them if we went out to eat (although I never took them anywhere you had to be quiet). They never do now as they are all old enough and know better.

The new pandemic is the mental health crisis among our youth, significantly impacted by the covid pandemic. I work in the education field and the things we are seeing would shock most folks. I'm deeply concerned about the future if we don't address this emerging tsumami.

Covid exacerbated the situation but there are other fundamental issues in our culture that are driving the mental heath issues of young people.

The problem is some of the key issues are things these people will refuse to acknowledge as major issues, such as social media, social media influncers who are set up as idols for kids to worship, and much of the complete lunacy that these social media idiols push on kids such as transgenderism, sexual identity alterations including hormone blockers or changes and radical genital mutilation surgeries that more often then not lead to even more serious mental health issues.

We are so far removed from the idea of simply having equal rights for LGBTQ types, we are now in another galaxy where homosexuality, transgenderism, radical surgeries even on small children are now pushed hard on these kids. The ldea of being LGBTQ+++ is not just accepted, its romanticized, celebrated and idolized above all things in society.

Young girls are taught that not only is is NOT their job to raise up strong young men and woman in a family structure, they are actually taught that such things are evil and oppressive. And that its actually a more righteous decision to murder your child in the womb because they are just a nuisance anyway and never get married or reproduce at all for the sake of the environment and self-centered focus.

There has never been a generation of kids and teens that had more totally insane and self destructive garbage pushed on them by social influencers. Brainwashed is not a big enough word, their mental heath is being systematically attacked and destroyed on a level never before see in our history.

Amen, brother. Preach!

Yeah, on the sig. I guess the MSM got the picture and reported correctly in 1984, Reagan's reelection, where the Gipper took every state except Minnesota, which was his opponent's (Mondale's) home state. Go, Gipper! (Mondale also took took the cesspool, I mean city, of Washington, DC)

The fact that you say you are a believer yet cast your pearls into the pigpen is a shameful sin that you will answer for. You cannot expect to not be filthy at this point. The valley of death awaits for those who glorify themselves.

What is Paul talking about in Romans 1? They did not think it wise to retain the knowledge of God so he gave them over to a depraved mind. And they did things that ought not be done.
