There were two things that disappointed me about this season. The first is how the NCAA didn't step in and forced San Jose State's hand to force them to make up their game against New Mexico State. They should have been fined for not doing so. I understand that one of their players died, but Virginia's situation was a lot more serious. Their player died in a freak accident. He would have wanted the game to be played even without him.

The other is how a potential 6-6 Army team won't be going to a bowl game, but a 5-7 Rice team is. The Army-Navy game should be pushed back to CCG weekend to avoid a situation like that in the future. If they lose on Saturday, then my second point is null and void.

You get why Army was left out, don’t you? The scheduled 2 FCS opponents and those are 2 of their wins. The NCAA doesn’t want to start a trend of schools loading up on FCS opponents just to make bowl games. That’s why Army and Appalachian St were passed over. Appalachian St at least could argue that they were screwed because of realignment but Army has been routinely scheduling 2 FCS teams for some time now.

New Mexico State is able to go to a bowl game at 6-6 with 2 FCS opponents.

And there's a reason for that...

Pretty mediocre year for UH, so personally I can't give this season an A but it was fun seeing some down programs (Kansas, Tulane, UConn) make bowls. Also pretty pleased with the playoff field. Seeing Bama get left out was a nice change of pace. Think I'd give this season a solid B.

Good overall season because for the first time in 3 years had a sense of normalcy.

From a Louisville point of view … it turned out to be a good season … winning record … got ranked back into the Top 25 with an apparent strong core returning for 2023 … but the big one …. Cincinnati taking Scott Satterfield and Louisville getting back Jeff Brohm from Purdue to be the head football coach … 04-cheers

I'll start off the proceedings with these comments:
  • It was a good season because two of the four CFP teams are NOT Alabama, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, or Clemson, for an extremely welcome change!
    .
  • It was a good season because neither Cincinnati nor UCF nor Houston won the AAC championship, for a change, and because - of all teams - Tulane is going to play in a NY6 bowl.

These would be my reasons for it being a good season. Nice to see teams like Cincinnati last season and TCU this season make a run to get to the playoffs.

With Memphis I and a few others predicted a 6-7 win season. The frustrating thing is how we got to six wins. Blowing leads this season like last season.

RE: Was this a good football season, in your opinion?
It's a mixed bag for me.

On the one hand, turbulent college football makes for entertaining college football. Much as I despise Tennessee as a rival, it was good to see them back for the first time in awhile. Seeing TCU finally have a shot after a perfect regular season & OT loss in their Championship Game. Seeing some different Conference Champs & not knowing who would be in some of them until the last couple weeks.

On the other hand...as turbulent as the season was in many ways, we still have 3 out of 4 playoff spots taken up with teams who have been there in the last 2 seasons. 2-loss Bama sitting in the 5th spot thinking they had a shot at a spot in the playoff, to the point that Saban was going on national tv wasting viewers' time begging for a chance they lost in Baton Rouge. As much chaos as there was, the CFP committee often felt like they didn't see any of it for themselves until the last poll.

Personally, this was also very true for my alma mater & for my family's team.

Liberty ended up with a better record than I expected, especially with the blowout win over BYU & the win at Arkansas for their first SEC victory, but it came with some very odd & painful results. The narrow Homecoming victory over Gardner Webb. The season imploding in the end, apparently due to Freeze moving on in all but his personal address. A season with huge success turned extremely sour as we watched losses to UConn, VT, & a blowout to NMSU in the wake of the announcement of Freeze's departure.

Florida had a less-than-favorable record than I expected, but I also didn't come into the season expecting a miracle in the wake of Mullen's bizarre end & poor recruiting efforts. The win against Utah set us up for unrealistic expectations, which became clear early with the loss to Kentucky. It basically was a flip-flop season: W-L-W-L-W-W-L-L-W-W-L-L. However, despite the results of the games, I felt more confident about the future of the program between recruiting victories & changes in coaching philosophy. Only time will tell whether this is false hope or not, but for now, I chalk the season up to what I expected it to be: a wash in what will hopefully pay future success.
