Will Austin Reed play? I guess not since he has entered the transfer portal. Kind of surprised by that.

We were told one of the biggest reasons he was named the starter over Doege was because we would "have him as the starter for 2 years". Sort of feels like we've been used here. It's clear we can send QB's to the NFL. Maybe he got a big call on NIL money.

I'm wondering if it's also evident Helton is gone too.

I wouldn't be surprised or terribly upset if that were true. Helton hasn't been a bad coach by any stretch of the imagination, but it also feels like we are always going to be just shy of great under him.

Back to the original question. I will be in New Orleans with my wife and two daughters for the game. Booked a quaint place to stay a couple weeks ago (with free cancellation) just in case. Glad I did. Go Tops! I hope we wear the Big Red helmets!

Also, I try to support the athletic department when I can. $40 per for the cheap seats when the Official Bowl site has them for $30... Well, $10 I can ignore, but $10 x 4 and I had to be pragmatic.

Was thinking about going because we like New Orleans and the weather is usually warm. But yesterday we just got back from a 10 day trip to S. Fla. So going to sit this one out.

I have mix feelings on Helton, I believe he's an above average coach, but I want a championship every few years and dont think Helton can do that. My biggest fear is Todd's ability to see or hire what it takes to win a championship....

his track record is not very good at that and not just football. Brohm was a choice it would take a 100% idiot not to get.

RE: Bowlin'
So there’s a possibility of playing this bowl game with a true freshman qb with a patched up offensive line. Good lord it could get ugly. That being said, if a guy enters the portal, I don’t want him out there.

RE: Bowlin'
The best way to look at all this (bowl games, NFL draft, NIL, transfer portal outgoing, etc), is that in my opinion, Western is an overacheiving, and well above average FBS football program. Back in 2010 I never thought that by 2022 we would have 9 bowl games, 2 conference championship, 1 other divisional championship, numerous NFL players, and several wins over SEC schools. I will continue to hope for a bright future for the Toppers! Go Tops!

RE: Bowlin'
Do we even have a chance at winning the bowl game now?? SAD day. Disappointing.

Do we have a beat writer I can follow on twitter--yet??

I heard they were working on a new contract for Helton-- if so-- they need to release that info NOW.

I'm sure Todd Stewart is working on things and I do think he has done an excellent job.

Just wish we could get some news (hopefully good) and some updates.

RE: Bowlin'
I understand opinions will vary but how anyone can say "excellent job" with zero football championships in the last 6 years and zero basketball championships in the last 6 years is mind blowing....

women sports dont move the needle

Let me add in those 6 seasons 3 losing records in football and 3 below average seasons of basketball... very far from "excellent job"

Can anyone name the coaches Todd hired that won championships in any sport? I know for a fact the new of championships Western wins has gone down with each of Todd's hires. excellent job, I dont see it.

Well -- you have some great arguments. I would still give the AD a B/B+. Excellent is too strong of a word.

Things look to be in a little TURMOIL right now at WKU--- Let me re-visit that grade on Jan. 15th and see how things look. Then again next summer.

Meanwhile Doege led Troy to the title. 03-nutkick

Great comeback win today against ODU. Very impressive performance by the frosh QB among others. It shouldn't have been that close-- the Toppers were much the better team.
